Some nice stuff went through RM/S this evening, but I was late watching it so didn't see the Ghibli or 3500 go through.

The Bora did ok though

Now for that lottery win...…..

Lots of stuff didn’t hit bottom estimate.
Auction room was a bit quiet too, lots of empty seats. Still, seeing those AMGs in the flesh was quite something.

Yes, I was surprised at the number of unsold lots so presumably the sellers were being somewhat optimistic in a rather uncertain market. The Miura auction was fun though, and the halftrack would be a hoot.

Well, what’s telling is that most of the cars were LHD versions of cars that also came in RHD which IMO would put off lots of home market bidders. Some of the best results came for RHD cars.
Obviously there were a lot of LHD only ever cars, but last night was largely dealers with a smattering of overseas bidders. Few enthusiast bidders. It also seemed to be an odd time of year to have it; when it was at Battersea it was in the middle of the Revival/Concours/Salon Prive season so there was more for visitors to do. This was a rainy Thursday night in October...
Far cry from the year the co-Watsapp founder waxed £4-6m on rare lightweight aircooled 90s Porsche’s in 45 minutes. That was something to behold...

I thought the 911 (195) might have made a bit more than £36k on the hammer, assuming that it's all good of course. I watched on line, were you there?

As absurd as it may sound, I would probably go for a left hooker over a rhd these days.

In many cases they make a lot of sense, especially if you go on European Touring holidays, or have a bolt hole in the med. Indeed, the red over silver 560 SEC last night (among others) was probably used for just that purpose. But... there is still that stigma. I don’t have too much of a problem with it, especially for ‘toy’ cars, but there does appear to be a bit of a turn off towards them.

That said the amount of drainage grates my lower back became intimately knowledgeable with during four (largely excellent) days with a LHD car over here was quite something. Not half as bad as the Shelby Mustang on coilovers through Norfolk...

I was there for the mag and CCW.
A lot of things were way off estimate. The ‘enthusiast’ bidder was probably in sunny Padova. The left largely UK dealers in drizzly west London - there were lots of empty chairs.

I can see they were trying to tie it in with the Regent Street Show/London To Brighton, but it was a really odd fit, and not enough there to tempt UK tastes.

Can confirm the Hammer and 560 SEC AMG looked as epic as they did in the pictures. That and the SL65 Black, Bentley Brooklands, Continental T, 850 CSI, E30 M3, 968 ClubSport... And of course the Delta S4 and MC12, the latter of which didn’t reach reserve. So if you fancy it, it’s still available, anyone?

As for the 911 it looked good in the flesh from what I remember but it’s lidless 911; aside from the appeal to oddballs of the Speedsters, they’re always of niche appeal (until the recent 911 gold rush). Much of the appeal of the 911 is the iconic shape. Much of the appeal of the 911 Turbo is the speed. Much of the appeal of the 911 is the handling (or lack of ;)). A cabriolet rather cuts through all of that, making the appeal of this hard to fathom.
It was a good price for the buyer, but in any 911 price deflation it was always going to be an easy target. Wrong time of year to flog a cabrio, too...

That said I’m not that much of a 911 guy. I preferred the test car 968 ClubSport and race-spec 928. But then, as I’m often reminded, I’m a bit weird.

It will be interesting to see how Silverstone Auctions do at NEC, and they also have a 911 cabrio.

It’s maybe the “Greta” effect!
