Repainting central switch plate - got the wrong colour! Advice.

I’ve been dealing with sticky buttons and recently got them back from Carplastix (great job, again). Thought I’d get the aluminium plate resprayed as it was damaged but it's come back slightly (annoyingly) wrong, despite the poor paint guy spending 3 hours trying to get an exact match. In the photo only the back plate has been resprayed, not the radio surround or the reverse lever (oval piece). Also the paint finish isn't as smooth.
Question - is it actually possible to get an exact match? The paint guy was a backstreet - nice bloke but perhaps not with the right equipment etc. Should I persevere with another company or keep what I’ve got? The original colour is not the dark grey but ‘aluminium’. Anyone know the official paint colour (the part no is 980138272)?

Crossed my mind! But a pig to dismantle the reverse lever & radio surround! Hoping for an easier solution….

It could be the same colour but with more or less gloss than the original which will throw off the colour match

Are they made out of the same material? Different materials react with paint in different ways which effects the finish. It looks like you have three different shades over the oval bit, base and radio surround.

Did the backstreet guy wet spray it or powder coat?

Hi, even if he use the same color-code, the existing color is old and the parts were a lot in the sun (ultraviolet ray). so there will always be a different, imho.
it is not so difficult to dismantle the reverse lever or audio part, have a look to youtube….

That looks a bus ride out to me.

There is a paint supplier near me that has a paint matching service. For £20 they will match any colour, you might have one close to you too. Here is the match they did on a spray out, I.e. the same.

Thanks all. I’m going to try a paint match specialist - might have one locally or there seems to be a expert outfit in Hove. If that doesn’t work I’ll have to strip it down & repaint the lot - wish I hadn’t started now!

Id just strip it and get it all done in one pass.
There are any number of reasons/variables that will affect the outcome.
Speak to a few pro painters, and you'll get an idea of why they do what they do, the way they do...!
