Has anyone tried to take the innards out of the backboxes on a 3200/4200?

It can be a cost effective way of releasing some sound on some vehicles but I have no idea how a 3200/4200 responds to it. Has anyone tried??

thanks

Yes they have and I think if you contact either Conaero, or BennyD, they can let you know what they have done so far..!!

No quite Rob. We've redesigned the innards of the GS back boxes but as far as I know, nobody has done the 4200s. No point really as they don't have valves and if you are just going for more sound go for straight throughs and save a sh!tload of weight. Bearing in mind that if the rest of the system is standard there won't be a great deal of extra noise so I would advise you to go for either an unsilenced X-pipe or sports cats as well as the straight through rears. The 3200s are always going to be a bit quieter than the 4200s with a similar system due to the turbos taking energy out of the gas stream.

Thanks for those comments BennyD - I've done unsilenced X-Pipes before on other V8 cars and always found they created a resonance boom at a certain rev point - usually 1800-2200rpm. I'm naturally suspicious of these therefore. Perhaps this isn't an issue on the 4200.

Whereas back box packing removal (or straight throughs) I've had done, generally just beef up the sound and open it up a bit at revs without creating any additional unwelcome noise.

I don't actually have a 4200 yet, but I'm planning the options.

I could potentially end up with a GS with a Larini system already on it, or an 02 4200 in factory spec so I'm checking out what is/isn't recommended by owners as options to help with sounds and handling.

Thanks
