So he has deleted his video all ready then. Strange fellow. As far as I can tell he was given every opportunity.

Anyway, so glad ASM is helping us keep the dream alive.

Me too and still haven't seen the refurbishment of his GT's underside.

I’m slowly coming to the conclusion that the juice isn’t worth the squeeze on that front. It was going well to that point, so a shame, again.

To his defense - in reality he seems quite 'normal' - but then I've only met him once (and maybe again later this year at a local car event)

I don’t see how anyone carries themselves like that in reality without getting a good pasting. Regularly...
Which explains a lot about how he comes to be such a keyboard retard...
How he holds down his job if he treats people like that is a miracle...I wouldn’t hire him...
Definitely a wrong’un ! :yeah:

I saw a pistonhead post weeks back where he referred to it just needing to be cleaned and painted
It looked like a mess . As if he had wire brushed it in situ, and then sprayed a polyester resin primer at it...still in situ. F*c5ing overspray all over everything..>!
Nice........! :boss:

There are pre-treatement images of the subframe on the 'I bought my first Maserati' thread on the 'other' forum. Didn't look like a simple clean up job - far worse than the one I have recently had replaced. Just tried finding the finished images to no avail, but it did look to have been done in-situ.

Still not made a thread to show progress with my GT!

done in-situ is no option at all years ago we used to do it TBH trying to limit, you can only spray cavity wax try and limit it (unless you can do it on a dry frame) it's just delaying the inevitable.

Picture below is of a mint condition QP, the external control arm box looked quite good with it the frame still in the car, we only decided to pull the frame because we noticed rust between the control arm mounts.
Once removed the horrors of 16 years of dirt heaping up and eating at the lightly spray painted frame.

Very much agreed - I think the misunderstanding of the importance here is key. Cleaning and treating is only suitable if it is off the car and observed to be in appropriate condition.

Do you see many that come of in acceptable condition?

Yes, I've seen good frames come of donor cars or cars needing major work (engine)
In the shop we have quite a number of cars with pristine frames as they came from desert climates. (and all requiring new bushings throughout as a consequence)

This isn't a accurately logged data point but here at the moment most big issues 2005-2007 (QPV) cars and some 2008-2009 cars (QP ZF/GT) (usually with less major holes)
So in this specific portion of Europe it seems major issues arise after 10-15 years generally millage now of replacement cars 100-150.000 km on average, the more rotten ones c.a. 200k

BUT with rust that's a huge general thumb approach, conditions, cleaning frequencies will be the real issue.

Availability update
05-07 F1 frames are now only as overhaul service for existing sub-frames in our shop.
We don't have enough cores to ship these we have one in-stock for garage customers. (FYI only narrow upper bushing, big lower bushing variants)

07-19 QP/GT frames, we have inventory (as core exchange)

Hi - please could you give me a price (in £GBP) including shipping to UK? And how would exchange work, assume I would need to arrange my own courier after they are swapped over?
I’m trying to price up the costs before offering on a 2010 Granturismo S for sale, that I have had inspected but has had previous poor repairs on the front subframe. But everything else is sound (apart from some paint)

thanks

We're due to have more upgraded F1 frames ready (this is for replacements on my shop as we only have one core)
Picture of a recent bad one:

New here. About to take the plunge in a GT Sport Auto.

Found and read the various threads on subframes, none of them particularly current. Some questions:

1. If the car appears to have a good subframe, but it hasn’t already been treated, I’d have it taken out, inspected and treated. What are the best treatment options? Bead blast, powder coat, waxoil inject? How about galvanising?

2. If upon inspection the existing subframe is much worse than anticipated, what are the options? Has the factory completely stopped producing new ones forever? Are there still reconditioned subframes available? What are the chances of finding a good S/H subframe on ebay etc?

3. Is anyone making pattern subframes, or has anyone had a subframe scanned, and attempted to have a new one fabricated by a metal shop?

4. Who is the best person to speak to about this?

This isn’t the worst major failing of a car manufacturer. Mercedes SL67s have horrendous engine issues, certain BMW and Porsche have also had engine issues to some extent. And these Maseratis depreciate much faster than any of those, so sorting out a subframe doesn’t seem particularly onerous… compared to say… £60K for an SL67 motor that will end up going the same way as the original.

Speak with any of the Independent Specialists on here and you will be given the right advice.
Finding a good second hand one is going to be getting harder now as the cars get older.
