Recommendations for a trickle charger

Im using the Ctek mx5.0, works well for me. I like the battery re-condition option which I have used on batteries just sitting around. You can get various leads. I have quite a long one, so that I can close the boot of the GT (wire placed by the right rear taillight), with the CTEK mounted on the wall. I have one piece connected directly to the battery, and then I just unconnect from the "click connect" bit when I want to drive away. I leave my on 24/7, but will actually put it on a timer at some point. I note that is is very low amp when maintaining the battery, so means it is also very low wattage. I dont have the figures to hand but i worked out it was very low, around 10W so cost very little to run 24/7/365.

I will add, that the previous owner used one before me, and his battery lasted 9 years....so they clearly play a role in not just ensuring your battery is ready to go, but prolonging its life. Ive not yet tried the recondition option with a battery connected to the car (only with batteries on the floor), but will try that at some point

Both my cars are on trickle chargers continuously. The Turbo has a CTEK MX 5.0.
The Gransport a cheap LIDL product.

Both are anazingly good and never damaged the battery.

BUT

In the event of a power outage, when power is restored, the CTEK resets itself, the LIDL obe doesn't. How do I know?

When I came back after almost three months in Spain, when I went to start the GS, the LIDL charger was not showing the car symbol. The battery was dead. When it is connected, the user must select 'car' or 'motorcycle ' by pressing the option button. After a power outage, it requires the user to manually select. I was out the country, could not reset it, so it did not charge after power was restored. The Turbo was fine. The CTEK reset itself.

I had to replace the GS battery.

I knew there had been a power outage because the cooker clock was wrong by over an hour behind.

Now I ask a neighbour to call me if there is a power outage and he has the GS key to press and reset the LIDL charger in the boot of the GS.

That is a good point about the Lidl one.

My Coupe GT is on a Maserati branded CTEK, my Lotus an Oxford Oximiser 600.
Both as good as each other, the Oxford is 15 years old, used 24/7 and still going strong.

My Grancab is on the maserati branded CTEX that came with car in 2012, store it every winter in garage from October to April, had CTex on pemantaly over those periods, no problems, on its second battery.

That is a good point CheshireMaserati makes, the electric's gone off and back on straightaway about four times since last night in this gale force storm we're having.

Whatever you go for don't go for the Maserati branded one. It's a ctek 0.8A at twice the price of the CTEK 5.0Amp.

If you have, please pm me. I have a great money making offer.
