More details on ML forum - see extract below in italics

Whats interesting is the recall relates to rear suspension tie rods - I beleive 4200 series owners have had issues with these and recently posts have surfaced on the subject

I'm starting to wonder if this is a common problem or are the components completly different

Any thoughts?

Italian super-luxury car maker Maserati is recalling 801 Maserati GranTurismos and Quattroportes in North America owing to a defect in the rear suspension. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the rear suspension left-side and right-side wheel alignment toe-in-tie rods may fail due to incorrect machining. If that were the case, it could eventually lead to a loss in vehicle control, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.

Sounds like a bad batch of parts so should only hit the ones fitted with that batch...

Nasty, as Andy says if its just isolated to a limited number then yes a bad batch.

Either way that's a nice find and thanks for the heads up.

Yes, it sounds more like a deffective batch. But the description of the effects sounds scary :)
