Hi Guys,

Yeah, I know, the subject title is a bit cringe… but, it’s true! I’m on the verge (hopefully!) of becoming a Maserati owner.

In terms of model, it’ll be the Granturismo. I’ve been looking at this model for the last 2/3 years now, it was a goal of mine to own one before 30 (which I am in September), and I feel that within the next 4/6 weeks I’ll be in a position financially to make it happen.

I’m looking at model between the years of 2011-2013, and my budget is between £30K-£40K.

I know there are a few models out there, being Granturismo S, MC Shift and MC Stradale (I think?). To be honest, I find it a little confusing differentiating between them all.

I’d be really grateful for any advice off you guys, and hearing your thoughts on my soon to be new acquisition. I’ll try my hardest to contribute on this forum too (I hate asking for stuff, and not giving back!).

I’m looking to spend a lot of time on this forum and getting to know you guys better in the coming weeks/months and hopefully years – exciting times!

No shame in that - I've had Maseratis for years and I still get confused by the all the different variants...

Oh, and welcome to the pleasuredome!

Thanks for responding Jonny, much appreciated!

If you don't mind me asking, what would you advise based on my budget? I hear a lot of people pushing for a 4.7 over a 4.2 - with the budget I have, I believe that should be achievable. All of this is very new to me, my current car is a 2006, CLK 220 CDI Sport !

Other forum members will have their own views.

Personally, I love the GranTurismo Sport 4.7. I like the newer front (without foglamps) like this:

There are many available, depends of course on your budget etc.

I would say, however, that you are effectively buying a Ferrari (you will know by now that the engine is made by Ferrari), and as such a service history and caring owner is of immense significance when looking to buy a Maserati.

You will find a great depth of knowledge and willingness to help on this place, so don't be shy!

Hi sbz8

Firstly, welcome... this is a great place to try and demistify the magical world of Maserati...

£40k is definitely more than enough to buy a really nice Granturismo S or a Granturismo Sport (post 2013)… if you haven’t already, look up Richard Grace and give him a call...

I agree regarding the newer front - it's the top end of my budget to get a model like this (budget is £40K), but I do find it way more appealing...

The example you sent is beautiful, I must say!

Yeah, for sure. How much would you say you spend annually servicing your Granturismo? If you don't mind me asking by the way!

Welcome - enjoy your search and enjoy the forum.
Well worth trawling the pages and building a knowledge base.

Top marks for the FGTH ref.

Thanks Navcorr!

I haven't been a member of a forum for AGES to be honest, I'm hoping to spend a lot of time on here :D

Hey Jon,

Thanks for that, I hadn't come across Richard Grace - I presume you mean these guys: https://www.richardgracecars.co.uk/ ?

To be honest, I've only been looking on Autotrader and eBay. Are there any other places you'd recommend?

Glad you raise it, since as you would expect Ferrari/Maserati main dealers will charge a hefty sum for each service. The later GranTurismos require a service every 2 years or 12,500 miles, and that is likely to be a significant bill each time (eg £2k). Independents - and there are several which are brilliant as you will see from trawling this forum - are less expensive. So you need to keep a little aside for the bills...

Yes - that’s who I meant, and I would definitely speak to Richard. He is more knowledgable about all the different variations and options than many, and is incredibly generous with his time and knowledge, with no hard sell. He is also a great source of some top quality examples...

To be honest, that's not too, too bad. As in, I thought it would be more in all honesty. Thanks for sharing.

Welcome.

What a nice position to be in at a fair age too.

Your budget gives you a fair choice except for the Strad which is c £55/60+k.

Remember these are expensive cars to maintain so don't blow it all on the car... keep a little back to fix any bits.

Stay away from anything that has not been looked after 101%... there are lots to choose from as a bad car will bite.

Richard has sold/bought three for me... he's a good egg and no pressure selling.

Thanks safrane, really appreciate that. Yeah, it's been a goal of mine from a young age to be honest - it's taken a lot of hard work, but I hope and anticipate to be in a position to make it happen very soon :)

Yeah, agree, I've got to be careful. A positive I guess, is that only anticipate driving my car around 30 miles a week, as my commute is literally 2 miles each way. I'd imagine the limited usage would heighten the likelihood of less going wrong - it seems logical, but would I be correct in assuming that?

You’ll definitely get a very nice GranTurismo with that budget. From 2011-2013 you could go for a 4.7 GT-S Auto, or a 4.7 GT-S MC-Shift (which is the manual version). Or at the top of your budget, a 2013 onwards GT Sport MC-Auto.

Your key decision, frankly, is on which gearbox you want. I recommend trying all three versions if you can. If it’s to be a weekend toy and you like mechanical interaction, go for the MC-Shift. But if it’s to be a daily commuting car or you live in a city, either of the auto options could be more suitable. They are all great cars, but the different models suit different people.

(BTW, if you want an MC-Stradale you’ll need to save up a little more, as they start at around the £60k mark.)

Welcome to the forum.

Thanks for that Ewan, that's really helpful information.

I definitely want an Auto, as it'll be an every day car, but more so because I hate manuals... :D
