Oh. Missed a chance at a dig in my earlier reply. I don't care if the reviews put people off buying diesel Ghiblis. Diesels have no place in anything other than tractors, taxis, and commercial vehicles.

Obviously as one of the Diesel supporters I can't let this comment go unchallenged!! ;)
In simple terms- no Diesel no Maserati. Sales of used cars earn nothing for development, and a handful of sales of a Coupe/Convertable and large saloon would never be enough to keep the company alive.
As the majority of current Maserati sales are for the Diesel, this does rather answer the question whether Diesel s are only for trucks.

Alternatively it could be that the majority of Maseratis sold are either trucks or taxis ;)

I understand the need for diesel in the market, but I'm still not comfortable with an Alfa diesel so a Maserati one is a complete anathema. Might as well have a Lambo SUV.

The reason there is no twin turbo D in the Ghibli is that FCA don't have one. Im not an engineer, so don't know if you can just shoehorn one onto the current VM motori one?
If not they need to build a new one, which will obviously cost more, but there would be plenty of use for it (Ghibli, QP, Levante, larger Jeeps, larger Alfas if they ever come to pass)..
I have read the next Ghibli / QP will be build on extended Giorgio (Giulia) platform, which is supposed to be excellent. Wonder if that points to the QV Ferrari derived 510BHP V6TT in the next version??

Saw last night on the Midlands news that all diesel taxi's in Birmingham will be banned from next year due to pollution

Get yourself a 35k petrol hybrid taxi or your out...It failed to mention all the old buses and trucks though..

It seems compression ignition engines are on the way out, does that mean all diesel engined cars will be worthless in 4 years time!

It's not all diesel taxis, just anything below euro 6 , they'll be running ancient London taxis throwing out pure cancer

I'm not surprised Maserati has gone this route

Maserati is to Fiat what Lexus is to Toyota , fiat levante 35k Maserati levante 70k , brand is everything
