Range Rover advice

Tried it on with land rover customer services but they said it's down to the individual dealers , on the FB groups some have said they fitted new calipers for free but I'm not taking a £210 an hour risk letting a main dealer loose on a 17 year old range rover

I can hear the phone call of doom now

Something snapped ,2 new calipers @ ££££ plus 4 hours labour £££

It's ready , bring lots of money

If it ain't broke don't fix it

Range rover fitted with the worst wheels I've ever seen , I can't imagine the driver has any fillings left in their teeth , has it even got tyres on it or is it rubber wrapped round like a cartwheel

Parked parked next to a 21 plate RR sport today

You'd think this was pretty bad on a 2 year old car that costs ¼ the price of a range rover but at 80k+ it's shockingly bad , chrome lasted decades in the 60s

All 4 wheels were the same

I think modern car cleaning has a lot to answer for.
The vast majority of owners use roadside car washes and the first thing they do (if you let them) is spray some (likely to be corrosive) road film remover all over the the lower panels and wheels and leave it there whilst you wait for your turn.
Can’t be good …..

spot on, and that's why a lot of callipers look really rusty as well, not to mention lots of lovely swirl marks on the paintwork from dirty wash mits/sponges

Watch the wheel nuts on those, tend to swell to the point the socket won't fit. Changed all mine out.

Fook mi.....£210 an hour. Wonder how much of that is tech cost, margin or anything else allocated. So over £1.5k per day....gees. That is barrister rates no?

No idea, but certainly day rates for senior consultants at C-suite level

I have been looking to replace the ageing tow barge, 03 RR Diesel, and I have been round and round all the alternatives and even though I know RRs can be a pain they still tick all the boxes.

So search has been set at £25k sub 50k miles which puts me just into early 4.4 TDV8 territory which is 10/11 plate and for a few k less I could get a facelift 09/10 3.6 TDV8. All hunt dory just a case of search out the sweet spec & price point.

Then this popped up RR Supercharged and it is a lot of motor for the price.

Now not overly bothered about fuel as it won't be the main car but I have no experience of this Supercharged engine other than it is the same as used in the Jaguar XKR.

Has anyone any experience of this engine in either the RR or the Jag and has any one used a Supercharged RR for towing?

Any advice appreciated
How about a Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 3ltr diesel? Mercedes V6 engine, superb. I’ve had mine for about 4 years and it’s brilliant. Fitted a Tunit Advantage 3 and Power Pedal - will tow anything and goes like the wind. Probably does around 25-27 to the galleon too.
Before I got it I was going to go for a RR but my dealer mate put me off in no uncertain terms. Too expensive and too unreliable, he said.

When technicians are in short supply and earn between £50-70k then it's no wonder labour rates are high.

Don't fancy £210 an hour though :)

To be fair I think I and many others are worth more I've got £50,000 invested in tools and equipment probably more 45 years experience and quiet a few technical certificates too.

Society doesn't seem to value people like you enough, and I don't think young people are often very interested in joining the industry. I run a business that sells and repairs farm, construction and ground care machinery - I'm sometimes on the end of people moaning about labour rates and it's a tough gig all round to recruit, train and develop staff.

Exactly youngFB_IMG_1693323394482.jpgFB_IMG_1693323400383.jpgFB_IMG_1693323408477.jpgsters today don't want to be doing this kind of work it's hard and dirty and very technical and a lot of what you earn is spent on tools to do the job in the first place.
Now I'm 61 I no longer work on 4x4 or Vans anymore by choice as this was one of the last I did.
I can still smell and taste it.

I wonder if the reason all the front of house staff at high end car dealers are young, hot and female , a middle aged guy isn't going to be prodding his index finger in the chest of an attractive young woman when he's not happy but he might if it's a bloke , tits are very calming
