Hello
I installed today the Quicksilver center section on my 4200.
The different is realy important, more sound, some little explosions in the mufflers,
Will make a new video soon to compare before/after the center section.

Too there is a big difference of weight.

I already installed a few month before the sport rear section (not supersport)

The rear section had already a nice sound but hesitate to buy a supersport and finaly I put the center section to have some more dB..
Here is the video with only rear:

Quite interested in the price of just the rear back boxes. After hearing your Tubi's(?) on your 3200 Nick, I think a bit more grunt would sound quite nice on my 4200!

Yeah mine came with the Tubi system fitted, I like it until I heard the Larini system.... I prefer the scream of the Larini to the growl of the Tubi, but I guess it can get a bit much.

What sort of resonance (noise) do you get inside the car..?? This is a concern of mine, as I would find it annoying on long journeys with a constant drone inside the car. I get a very slight drone with the standard boxes when cruising, hardly noticeable. So what's the general opinion of the different systems..??

Frank,
I've heard yours in tunnels and on the road, it does sound brill with the straight through's on the rear, but you did say you got a drone..?? I trhink I might invest in a high end loudspeaker system and fit those to the rear of the car with a looped exhaust sound system, then I would not have the drone and have a kick ar5e exhaust note, what do you think..??
We need something like a system star rating for noise and drone for each brand..??
Cheers

Yes I looked at those, but involved to fit and you have to switch on and off, is that right Frank..?? I am still undecided and will have to drive everybody's cars just to check out the differences you understand..!!

Quicksilver often say to choose the supersport system:

inside sound:

I decided to buy a sport version (with muffler) because wanted something not too noisy and on this system you have adjustable tips I wanted..I set them longer like this, my rear bumper wing is no longer dirty because of whater coming out of the exhaust... Finaly they were true..added the center section added some DB and I m sure you can have same result only with a pair of supersport (without muffler).

Now I have something like this:

Dont know if my wife will like it...

Regarding valved and switching on and off, FD have a product (not on the web site) that independently controls the values for OEM backboxes. There is also a solution for non valved boxes.

Here are the details ex FD

For the remote key fob, it's a hand held remote same as you see here : http://www.formuladynamics.com/products/4200_larini_mufflers/images/4200_detail7.jpg There are more parts of course, depending on the model and configuration, I don't have pictures handy of the rest. The price is $ x for a car that would already have an existing valve controller such as GranSport, MCV, GranTurismo S. The price is $ y to add the kit to a car that doesn't already have a valved muffler installed from the factory (such as the 4200 standard, QP 4.2L, GT 4.2L). However, this $ y kit is really only useful to someone who is installing a set of valved mufflers.

The kit is a bit of work depending on which car you have. The $ x kit is an electrical installation, the $ y kit is a bit more involved with vacuum lines and hardware. An owner can do it if they're proficient in standard Auto Electrics, it's an easier install that a DBW for instance.

The package for the kits typically run 10"x7"x4", 3 lbs. My feeling is that you'll really only find owners that are interested in the $ x kit that may want independent control of their existing factory valved mufflers

Hi Chaps,
Many thanks everybody for the input, I will study all those bits of information and hopefully arrive at a suitable solution. Has anybody that has put such as Larini Rear Boxes on and found they drone, tried such as a heat resistant fire blanket to see if that deadens the drone, or not..??

This is all news to me, I thought you could just fit Larini's or Tubi's onto a 4200 and that would be it. Did not think there was the need for a remote controlled valve switch.

Must say i find a remote controlled valve switch quite unappealing. I generally like cars as close to factory standard as possible.

Hi Ross,
Same here, but the song that some cars make with different exhausts can be quite stunning, I just don't want the interior drone. Regarding the heat tape Adam, I was thinking more of a muffling effect of something like a thin blanket, so that the drone does not get in to the car, but you still have the noise.

Hi Robert

I don't think I properly explained myself. In short - I want the magnificent sound and would be keen to upgrade the rearboxes of my exhaust. But, I did not intially find the thought of having a remote control fob to control a valve is not overly appealing.

However, I've now looked in to it and realise that it is a supplementary thing. I now realise that you can just change the exhausts, to something a bit louder, and you can also add to that a remote control valve system operated by a fob. I got confused and thought that you had to have a remote if you wnated to change the exahusts, something i had not heard about before.

Hi Ross,
TBH I think and I'm not certain, that the valved rears are selective and you have a control inside the car, you can fully open them, or not, dependent on how you want to drive at that specific time. It does seem a bit fiddly, but you have to switch SPORT on, so I suppose another switch is not that much of a problem, maybe the two could be linked..??
