Quick question for someone that knows these engines - what’s the pulley in the bottom right of the attached pic?

thanks

Mine has just packed in - I assume it has a clutch which locked, and the aux belt started to smell of burning rubber. Does anyone know whether the compressor and the clutch (assuming it has one) are part of the same unit, or will it need both parts?

Thanks

**** it! Happened 4 miles from home, but I don’t want to risk it overheating, as the water pump won’t be turning....so I’m currently waiting for RAC. I’ve been waiting 2.5 hours so far - standard response of “coronavirus” for the delay. Dehydrated but need a pee :D

Water pump isn’t driven by that belt - it’s integrated together with the oil pump.

You’d loose power steering and the alternator though.

Happen to me near Bazel and I had to leave the car in Colmar and fly home.

I was lucky that the car got us to the hotel but would not start again when we were setting off for a dinner at a vinyard.

Zep and Stefan stepped in to get the part and arrange for it to be shipped from Chec Republic and fitted at a local garage.

The electromagnetic part had disintegrated and the coil melted and fused on mine... and we had just travelled from Como over the Alps... we could have been atuck in the middle of nowhere.

I bought a clutch and pulley on ebay. It's Chinese, but a lot of repair parts are from there now. Another member just sourced a shorter belt and did without the A?C.

Now home - RAC turned up eventually. Started and ran fine putting it into the garage - albeit v heavy without PAS!
