QP exhaust system - can anyone help?

Car is coming together as i want with its new GTS shadow chrome 20" wheels and yellow calipers.

I have a couple of questions about the exhaust.

This is one of the most amazing sounding cars I have ever owned, although sometimes I think at 4000 rpm i would like to be on the pavement listening................ instead of leaning out of the window .. ;)

I like the 4000 rpm sound. Can I have it earlier in the rev range?

I was told by someone with an F430 that the exhaust has valves that open at certain revs. And that it is possible to have these opened permenantly............. is this true or false?

or do I really have to get a larinin system - I would rather not as i have already made quite an investment in this delightful car - but would be grateful for your feedback as to how to maximise the sound of this simply sublime sports saloon.

Marc,

if you want complete control over the volume, tone and don't mind paying for the best Larini it is.

If not, do as several others have done, take off rear silencers, stick on straight through pipes.

There are two options available for the latter, with a forum discount, one in Walsall and one in London.....£300...versus .....£225

But am sure other owners might have a few more suggestions......to fully tease out your requirements!

Don't know much about the finer points of the QP, and didn't know they came stock with valved back boxes, but if this is the case then there are kits available to control the valves independently via a remote control or switch.

Marc, type in Maserati exhaust into utube...see what shows up, or there is a thread on them...hold on.

I have the full exhaust system to my late 2004 (2005 model year) 4.2 duo-select QP sitting in the garage,
I have just had another look to check, and am sure there are no valves.

Hard to tell what the end result/sound wil be Marc...much louder I would imagine, but how 'tunefull', I am not sure...
One thing for certain is that the Larini system on the QP gives the exhaust a higher pitch than on the 3200/4200s,
this was quite evident at the recent wet handling day. I have kept my old exhaust, but it will never go back on whilst
I am the driver :D :D :D

Same as the vids you've seen Marc really......both silencers off....unfettered flow the 4.2 engine is the same...assume everything will be too as regards final noise/racket ....;).....out the far end!!!

Yes, a critical point, do you want a mid-sports sound or full sports? Want to ensure no boominess or resonance at certain rev bands though

Also, deeper growl or slightly higher pitched Larini?

...and as good as some of the vids are, they are no substitute for hearing the real thing 'live'...
try to get to a few meets and listen to the different setups, you will soon know which sound you prefer.

I note on the "About MIJ Performance " page....in the customer waiting area section they have an "Exhaust simulator Machine".......how neat is that!

So if the QP isn't valved, then the sound at 4K rev's that you like is down to air flow / pressure and it's resultant resonance on the pipes through which it's flowing. First thing to establish is where is that resonance being generated? I'd suspect the centre section is having more to do with the tone through the revs than the back boxes. The back boxes are more of an amplifier.
