I'm obviously excited about my impending car purchase but what I'm getting is lots of negativity from most who I mention it to. "ooohh you don't want one of those, terribly unreliable you know" Really, and how do you know that? hearsay?
I'm sure I'm guilty of it but don't stick to your misguided opinion when faced with facts and knowledge.

I know I'll enjoy it, I'm far too impatient.

A lot of people snort derisively. Pop the bonnet or sit them in a passenger seat and unleash **** on them. They soon change their mind.

Tell me about it!

Just recently bought mine - before that was toying with the idea of joining Club GT. So the guy from Club GT has been ringing me, so told him yesterday I bought a 4200. His response was like good luck with that - we've had a few maseratis - always unreliable etc etc. Asked who I was having it serviced by. Told him Autofinnicia - again "yh, they not that good" To top it all of he was adamant that the 3200 had less problems than a 4200. Know I'm a novice to this - but from what I read wasn't there potentially many more issues with the 3200?

Know each car individual, but end of the day all supercars cost relatively big money to maintain, don't they?

I've done enough research on these now to know there are fewer problems and issues than on my previous B5 RS4. When I say problems, I mean big ones that cost a good few thousand.
The B5 RS4 has cam wear issues so if you've not had them professionally inspected by someone who knows, or had them replaced you are likely to be facing a probable bill of about £3k. Once they are out it makes sense to change a load of other bits so that can climb to £4k.
This was one of the major issues and along with £1k front brakes the Maserati 4200 seems like a walk in the park.

I'm finding myself defending the Maserati decision and the more often I do it the sharper my responses get. I'm now asking them what are the facts they are aware of, I mean FACTS!
"Ooohh servicing costs"
"Eeek, terribly unreliable"
"wow, that'll be expensive"
And the RS4 wasn't? SHUDDUP, my money, my car, I'll do what I like.

And calm.........

People not-in-the-know harp on about reliability issues as if all Maserati cars were built like the early biturbos of the 1980's (i.e. badly!). But reliability has not been an issue for the modern era cars (i.e. post 1995 approx.). I'd go so far as to say that with my current Maseratis, reliability doesn't even enter my head. (Well, no more so than it does for other comparable cars such as Ferrari, Lambo and Porsche.)

A decent 4200 is unlikely to cost you what your RS4 did in terms of servicing costs. Go for it.

Pretty much what I've been reading and I'm more than happy to take the plunge. I'm very much looking forward to it. More so than any other car I've ever contemplated buying.

It's the same feeling each time you pick it up from the garage as well...and you forget the cost about 2 seconds after the rev counter hits 5.5k

When it comes to horror stories I think porsche 911's are the scariest. As one indie said to me, you need £8,000 on hand for when, not if the IMS fails, regardless of service history or mileage.

I was just admiring this one on auto trader... (my brother in law is likely to take the plunge on an S5 .. unless I can turn him to the dark side..)...

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201405114117947

I noticed that the seller describes the interior as "Bordello"....... I thought that meant "Brothel"...... surely he means Bordeaux.....Or perhaps not...

Knowing the current owner as I do, you may be right about your "Brothel" assumption, hey Donny?

Well done that man..!! have taken both a 3200 and a 4200 down to Southern France and to Spain, with no issues whatsoever, that's reliable..!! They have same issues as other cars, look after them and they will reward you 10 fold, not many other cars get the admiring glances and give you such a broad smile mate..!!

Well done Mike! Let's see how long you keep it for! :D

Thank you, I have bets running at work, one said ONE MONTH!!! Most quoting fuel costs and repair bills. I think they thought the RS4s were cheap to run!

It has full dealer history at Colchester Maserati and after speaking to them via e-mail it seems it was very well looked after. I'll keep up the service regime with Emblem probably, making a move away from the dealer network but that doesn't bother me at all. In fact I think it would be better.
They're not the closest to me but recommendations for them speak volumes.

I did have a bit of a wobble this Morning, thinking "what have I done" but that's faded as the day has gone one and now I can't wait to drive it home, the long way round.

I got the Norwich one, my perfect colour combo.
I did enough research to satisfy my worries and questions and with the information gleaned from the dealer and the very recent service that included a health check, I was sold.
My purchasing it in full was dependent on it being what, and how it was described, which it was and is.
