Some of the ripping off is dressed up. We have a 5 series tourer booked in for its final warranty check. Online they do a 3 year brake fluid change for £71, which is recommended. When my wife booked it in she was then told it’s was £141 She challenged the difference and pointed out the website page price, specific to our vin and priced up. Oh yes that’s correct for the fluid change but we then have to recode thr I drive to get rid of the service warning light, you don’t want that alert popping up all the time do you? so the price really isn’t £71 is it... needless to say we aren’t having the work done at the dealership, I popped round to my local garage and he’s got the job.

I did it the other way round once. I charged a BMW main dealer for parts I had fitted elsewhere. Plus my time.

Took my 330 in for a service and MOT. Was under extended warranty, so had to use them for servicing.
Car was tip top, no issues, they failed the MOT on rear brake pads. Danger! Danger! You will die if you drive it another mile. Brass neck of it is unreal, car even has sensors so you can check everything on the idrive. Was all green.

Wanted £220 just for rear pads and said it would also need rear discs for £400 too! Luckily was in the days when if you had any time left on MOT you could drive off and do it elsewhere. They didn’t look happy when I said I was going to do that.

Got my pal to do it, who is also an MOT tester.
Pads still had 5mm left (new 10-11mm, fail 1.6mm), he fitted them for £90, gave me the old ones back.
Arranged meeting with dealer principal, he tried to come up with all sorts of BS to justify it, blaming the tech etc, and reluctantly agreed to pay for the job plus 2 or 3 hours of my time messing about. After agreeing, service manager started being arsey, and dragging his heels. I just contacted group MD, sent him all the evidence/emails and he went nuts, gave the service manager a written warning and I had my money within an hour.
It was about £250 or so they paid me, instead of me paying them over £600.
Main dealers, don’t you just love them.
