Price of new Maserati GT

Is it just me, or has the price of the new GT risen by about 50%!
Whilst I am in no position to spend 170k on a new car, the new GT, which according to Autocar does a very good job of doing what it always did albeit with a V6 engine, but now costs an awful lot more to buy. Whilst the EV version I think comes in at around the 200k mark.
Whilst I understand Maserati is pushing upmarket, no doubt cos its not hamstrung by Ferrari, but this car is essentially doing the same thing as its predecessor but for a lot more money.

A second hand Portofino makes much more sense
My thoughts are that the car is not special enough to warrant 175k by the time you specced it pretty as it maybe.

The pricing strategy is not working as evidenced by the used price of an MC20.

Do they really want a reputation of plummeting residuals the moment you drive a new car off the lot?

In my humble opinion, the pricing strategy is a misstep - too much, too soon.

Though the GT buyer is different to the MC20 buyer. The MC20 is too much of a supercar for my daily needs, where as the GT is just that - a GT that can take the whole family, do the school run, etc. They are simply different cars aimed at different buyers, even if the prices are similar(ish).

You are right: different propositions and benefits.

Will that translate to higher residuals than the MC20? I certainly hope so, but sadly I’m doubtful.

£145k buys a new GT with no options spec, but spec is plentiful anyway. I’d say I’d be happy with £5k of options on one IMG_2020.jpeg

I think we all know that a (circa) £160k Maser GT is going to be a financially painful new buy in terms of depreciation. Just like equivalently priced (non limited edition) cars from Aston, McLaren, etc.It comes with the territory. (Though probably worse for Maserati, as the brand isn’t as strong.)

Think the bigger question is a secondhand Maserati Alfieri (ahem) or a new GT for around the same price?

This pricing strategy will leave the new EV single replacement for the QP/Ghibli probably around the 120k mark.
Like Jaguar when they relaunch in '25, there new range will begin at over100k. The fact is Maserati and of course Jaguar tried to take on the premium German's and didn't succeed, so there is better market security further upmarket, something the Germans can't do, and try and snap at the heels of Bentley and Aston Martin. For me one thing I liked about my Ghibli was its 'bang for the buck' as many thought it cost over 100k! Without meaning to drag my replacement into the conversation, probably much to the amusement of some on here, after over a year, thanks to its rarity (Genesis Electrified G80) I have lost count at the number of people who think it's a Bentley, whilst at circa 90k it's considerably cheaper. This was always the trick with the Maserati GT, everyone thought it cost a **** of a lot more than it did thanks to its looks and mystique of the badge! At its new price its coming up against Continental GT's and the new much improved AM DB12, and whilst its got better interior space, the 'Maserati badge' has got a lot of heavy lifting to do!

I was in HR Owen, Manchester this morning to pick up my car which had some work done to it. I bumped into the 2023 GranTursimo Trofeo PrimaSerie limited edition. The paint colour is kinda light blue-grey matte - looks beautiful! V6 engine with approx. 540bhp. Limited production of 75 cars globally and priced at £215k!!! Beautiful looking car but....the price tag is ridiculous! Even if I was to find £215k inbetween my sofa cushions, I doubt I would be spending it on a Maserati.....

Ghastly red accents and badges. That’s exactly what a Maserati shouldn’t have!

Yeah. Thinking that I'd go a Trofeo Ghibli if I need for doors for my next car, but *really* not sure about the accents.
