PPG Blu Mediterraneo

Well, you learn something every day.

I had my front bumper repainted on my 2002 Blu Mediterraneo Spyder and the match was terrible. I instructed the painter to order the paint from PPG which he did and still no joy.

So, I took my Spyder to PPG today and after an hour of searching paint chips and the use of a spectrometer, it was found that the 2002 Blu Mediterraneo is actually a pearl or 3 stage paint, base1, base2 then lacquer. They even did a spray out card for me and the match was perfect.

So, if you are after the paint, contact your local PPG supplier and insist upon Nexa clearer shade Blu Mediterraneo.

Its not cheap either, £50 per half litre and you need 2 types.

That's useful to know. Mine has been painted twice now and I haven't been happy either time.

Is yours blu med too Klive?

PPG basically mixed a one stage paint to emulate the 2 stage pearl and its no good.

Tell them to paint it again with the PPG NEXA 3 stage.

Well that sounds like exactly what happened to me.

You can get the Nexa from your local Brown Brothers supplier.

With mine the colour looked good straight on but as soon as you stand back and change the angle it looks too dark and does not have that electric blu hue to it.

That's exactly how I saw mine. I have the plastic coating on it know for some protection which doesn't help and the slight infringement with the garage door frame suggests either another respray or a chat with Cat's touch up chappy.

Hi Matt,

I'm thinking of getting my Spyder front bumper blown over as well.
I'm now a bit concerned as to what type of paint should be used.
My Spyder is Nero Carbonio PPG code 290506

Do you or anyone else know exactly what it is that is required.
Out of interest what sort of price are you paying for the respray.

Black is pretty easy to get right, I am paying £300 for a bumper off, total stip and repaint but they did feck up the colour match and it was down to me to find the correct shade and I had to pay the £50 for the paint.

Take your car to Brown Brothers, get them to check the PPG and Nexa swatches and make sure your paint is not a 3 stage pearl.

I had the right code, it was that my paint was actually a pearl (3 stage) and PPG did a 2 stage version which was rubbish.

Thanks Matt,

Nero Carbonio is a metallic, so I'm wondering if its 2 or 3 stage. Not that really understand the what that means :)
I will look to see where the nearest Browns is to Sheffield.

I'll show you mine if you show me yours, kind of thing?

Saturday PM is not great as we have people coming for dinner, and we won't be up crack of dawn on Sunday, but otherwise see you any time.
