Power Steering Fluid Flush

Hi all, I proceeded to flush the fluid by repeatedly: pumping it from the reservoir, moving steering wheel from side to side, poring new fluid, moving the steering wheel from side to side.
Questions:
  1. Once the I pumped out the fluid and turned the steering wheel from side to side I was expecting the reservoir to fill again (I saw that in several videos) but nothing happened, just an empty reservoir. Is that normal?
  2. every time I was pumping out I could only get 100 ml out from the reservoir so I had to do it 10 times to do 1 bottle of fluid. People were saying to repeat the process “a few” times not 10 times. Is this normal?
  3. Shall I do 1 more litre? Would that be enough?

thanks!

Apologies I can't help on your question, but are you doing this for maintenance? How often do we need to do it and why?

Keep adding fluid until you get some in the reservoir. There’s probably not enough in there to fill the pump and lines. Turn the wheel from lock to lock

if the fluid looks clean I’d leave it at that.

Manual says every two years. Imo it’s is not necessary that frequent. Really it’s about checking the fluid is clean. Why? As to avoid excessive wear in the steering pump.

It is a two year sevice item so every service.

The procedure to do it is crack the 17mm off on the NS of the rack and let it drain.

Then refill.

You should never use the power steering with low or no fluid in it, you will cause damage to the metal parts and the seals.

Fluid: Shell Spirax HDX

Plenty of methods. But as above don't run it low.
I personally use a vacuum pump on one hose, and another hose I put in a fresh bottle of atf and run till 5l has gone through it.
