Positive terminal mega fuse

My 08 GT keeps blowing the positive terminal mega fuse. With a fully charged battery, the car turns over very slow and laboured then takes out the fuse. Any ideas before I send it to the dealer?

Another thing to note, before this happened I had the flashing battery light above 3500rpm. I shut the car down, charged the battery overnight, load tested it, then replaced the fuse and tried to start it. It then took out the second fuse.

I would look at the alternator, if the diode pack is failing it over charges and possibly the cause of your mega fuse issue. Run the car and put a volt meter accross the battery terminals and have it revved through the range.

You are looking for constant 14.4v

Is the battery getting hot?

Be careful they can explode, where eyewear minimum whilst in there.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately we can’t get the car to start, it just cranks very slowly a few times then blows the fuse.

Sounds like the starter is drawing some daft current. So.....try disconnecting starter cable (not sure how easy that is?) Turn key and see if fuse blows? If it does you have likely got an earth fault on starter circuit. If it doesn't blow then suspect the starter itself. I'm thinking you have a cable chaffed through somewhere. Also check for earth continuity to the battery?

Thanks, confirmed earth continuity to battery. Won’t be able to confirm the other on the road side though

Had a similar issue when my AC pump seized.

You could try removing the Aux drive belt to see if it turns over any easier.
