Pipe Identification.

I'm trying to ascertain what each large fuel pipe that runs down under the sills are.
After doing the brakes my attention has turned to those, one on the left and two on the right. Assuming maybe a couple of supplies and a return, they are in ok condition apart from one bend at the rear on the nearside. Not sure why it doesn't leak!!!

One supply
One return
One vapour (think this is the one on the left as that’s where the gubbins are at the front)

In theory that’ll give you a partial vaccum leak.
Yes it's the one on the left that is holed. The other two are absolutely fine. Maybe that's why it occasionally drops revs past idle and almost stalls if I rev it.

i am just about to try and replace that vapour hose too, mine is quite rusty. Maserati dont make them anymore and so like the two fuel lines i will need to make one i suspect.

I'm wondering, as the rest is very good, I could splice a piece in. I'll see what I think once I get to the ends.

well yes i was thinking that too the ends are covered and in good nick i think so perhaps just a nice stainless tube bent to the right shape in the middle. i don't think the vapour tube is under any particular pressure

I think I'm going to sleeve the bad parts of mine in 7mm id rubber fuel pipe for now, until I can manage a better fix.

The vapour line will be under vacuum when the purge valve is open.
This is very probably a silly question, but if the pipe is under vacuum at certain times but is holed and rusty is there a danger the rusty flakes get sucked somewhere where they shouldn’t ?

As I say, probably a very silly question

I was wondering what the effect of no vacuum would be. Hence sleeving it to see if it made any difference.

Yes I can see how that would work as a temp fix as you describe.

I was just thinking aloud about could rust flake have been sucked somewhere before you discovered the problem.

I don’t know specifically for 3200 type platform but generally the flow is petrol vapours via a solenoid valve into the intake manifold. There is some chance I guess but I’d think it’s minimal.

i am clearly loosing it, got back from a trip yesterday and there's a massive Maserati part box with a new vacuum line in it which I clearly ordered some time ago from Eurospares. So they are available!!!! That's one job got a little easier.

Probably not terribly helpful, though.

Is this the vapour return pipe part number,
389201124 and superseded by 389200124. Says no longer available to order which is a pity. I may have to go the fabrication route.
