Folks..i believe it's the time for me to buy a car that is made for work aerea use. The mito, the s3 and the saab had enough of me loading them with cement, steel and several contruction oriented equipment.
I am in for getting a toyota hilux, a mitsu l200 or a nissan navara.
My question is if anyone has experience with them, mainly in diesel consumption.
Alternative could be a 2000 land rover discovery mpi. Well it's no pick up, but someone can go to the mountain with this as well.
Comments are welcome.

Trailer.

I had a navara when they were a tax dodge , awful to drive on the motorway, designed to carry a tonne so when it was empty it was bouncy.

Consider a defender, buy right and depreciation will be zero

Exaclty the same I am reading for the navara.
What is the difference between the defender and the discovery? Discovey looks a lot more comfortable (it s a seven seater as well).

I drove a Toyota Hilux 3.0 D4D 2x4 for two years and its a remarkable vehicle. Lots of torque and power and can still do 120km/h cruising on the highway comfortably. Tends to spin the wheels when unloaded, particularly in the wet. There's a reason there are so many of them on the road in SA - they're almost Africa proof.

The disco is more of a on road vehicle that can go off road, the defender is a tractor you can drive on the road , the newer puma engined ones are a lot more civilised than the TDi or TD5 defenders

Defenders are cool but they're also marmite , you have to love them for what they are

I have a Navara D40 king cab with crates in the back to take the dogs around - it's a decent ride but look out for head gaskets - I've had 2 go (so far) and the car is on 92k miles. Other than that, I have no complaints

With have a Nissan Navaro at work and it's so impractical , rubbish load space , to high , lethal in the wet if unloaded and firstly **** turning circle and way to big . if you not to proud and don't need four seats get your self a short wheel transit ,the new ones are just like driving a car .

I know many, many guys here in Aus that use a Hilux as work vehicles and also many that use them as work horses on farms.
They all swear by them.

Thank you guys. What are the numbers for consumption on the hilux vs navara vs ranger?

A friend of mine had a Navaro and had several issues with the rear diff (lsd) sorted under warranty. Common thing apparently. Another friend runs an Amarok. Lovely bit of kit with the 8 speed auto and pretty quick too. Can't help with economy figures though.

Mate had an auto one, he said it was great but the auto box returned some horrendously low MPG in the early 20's
