I might've posted this before , can't remember

1974 when I was 13 I saw this Jensen every Saturday for 2 years when I went to work with my dad , never seemed to move

Roll on 30 years , I got diverted off the A14 , went through the same village and no! still there , it had a tarp on it but there's no mistaking that back window

A few years back it came up for sale on eBay

Not sure how much was left by the time he delivered it

I used to see it regularly when passing through Walcote, with every passing year it sank further and further into the pavement. It's bad enough that it was an Interceptor, what's really sad is that it was one of the first batch built by Vignale in Italy....

Within days of it going its spot on the pavement was taken up by a black Bentley Turbo R!

Is that the Walcote in Leicestershire, near Lutterworth?
If so, I've obviously been driving through it with my eyes shut, as have going there regularly for years and never noticed that Jensen!!!

Yes that's the one, just the other side of the M1 from Lutterworth. For the last few years it was there it had a tarpaulin draped over it.

My much missed Mk1 Cooper S in Long Itchington, Warwickshire....

What is it with E31s and being neglected? There was another snap of an abandoned V12 example a month or two ago - they're amazing looking cars.

Cheap and unloved, quite complex. The V8 540i I had is the only car I’ve ever been unable to diagnose and fix in over 25 years of working in cars.

Quite a fall from grace then, given the prices of them new. What was the issue with the 540i?

Reminiscing over the cars I have had still the Daimler Sovereign XJC is one of the favourites and was a pleasure to work on too.

The 540 is an E 39 and quite a lot different to the E 31, which is mentioned above. My E31 850 Ci is still going strong and 29 years old next month. Neither neglected nor unloved, a car well before it’s time and still looks better and can out perform most modern day cars with regard to acceleration, top speed and handling. V12, with four wheel steering and a pleasure to drive.

The V8 is the same. The V12 is a far better engine than the M62.

It’s not just the engines, different models 5 series and 8 series. And everything else that went along with that. The 8 series, whether 840 or 850 are the ones now making the money, especially the 850 which are rare.
