There is also not accounting for the stupidity of racing drivers. Jean Rondeau, the only man to win Le Mans in a car bearing his name, drove through a level crossing when the barriers were down with predictable results.

He did. Drove round the barriers. Gendarme had done the same and he followed him. Still happens. It’s staggering the amount of people who risk it a level crossings.

I suppose the front bears some similarities, but that was a mid engine. The 246 engine has good memories for me, I was given one to take apart and put together again to teach me the ropes, not knowing much about engines when I started work in a work shop when I was 18.

There’s a video on YouTube of a guy and 2 passengers going round a track in a Speedtail, they look like they’re trying to get into a phone box and close the door.
