Whilst looking through old pictures found this of my old Z3M and 528i which the was on 180,000 miles.
Checking the MOT history on the Z it lost over 30,000 after I sold it on.

Did the bush growing over the front of the house and infront of the front door give you the idea for your unruly hair :p

nice little car by the way, neighbour has had one since new and can’t part with it.

Have owned and loved many BMWs and use a couple of >10 year old V8s for daily drivers. More recent cars have suffered horrendous depreciation, probably due to BMW Finance aggressive PCP deals. Our 335d Touring is already under the GFV point after only 2 of the 4 years! In 2018 I bought an M6GC from Sytner BMW. It was high spec and list was £116k (sure that was not the true sale price). 2.5 years and 27k miles later they retailed the car to me for £40k. Guess they paid mid to high 30s from the original owner! That is crazy depreciation!

lovely Z3M, that 528 must of been an m sport, had a 525i m sport in exactly same colour quite a number of years ago and loved it, great handling and super chassis the E39 and last of the best 5 series, all later ones just looked naff to me

Pre-Bangle, I had a series of BMWs - 8 series, 7 series, 5 series, M3. In those days, they were still pretty exclusive and special cars and I loved them. Bangle’s designs and the push to mainstream volumes destroyed the brand for me, even though I know some of the M cars have continued to be great drivers cars. I still look at and admire the 90s cars

There are only 3 legit reasons that i can think of.

1. Odometer failure replaced with a 2nd hand unit.

2. Engine changed which i believe you can change the mileage to reflect the mileage of the replacement engine.

3. Unlikely to apply to the above example but if the mot station inputs the incorrect mileage it causes some major hassles to correct. If its spotted within 30 days the MOT station can correct. If its outside of 30 days then letters from the MOT station have tobe produced and an appeal lodged at DVLA to correct the record.

Either way on the case in point it sticks out like a sore thumb.

There is another alternative which I have encountered on a number of occassions on older cars and motorbikes .... changing clocks from KMH to MPH.

I have done this on a few bikes that I have restored but have retained extensive paperwork and the old clocks as proof.

1990s and 2000s BMWs are really difficult to clock without the warning dot showing next to the odometer as the mileage is recorded in two or three different units. It’s not obvious but if you look on the odo next to the mileage they’ll be a full stop if the units don’t all read the same on start up

Many were deliberately set on fire back then, lots of insurance claims, lots of free cash!
