We loved Route 1, we did San Fran to Santa Monica back in 2017 before heading along R66 back to Chicago. We have plans to do the whole west coast once the girls have left home as on the 2017 trip the bridge at Big Sur was closed we drove down to it but for detouring back but want to do the whole route

From memory it gets better the further north you go, ie passed SF - but I'm going back about 30 years - defo do it (the good thing about over there is they vaguely understand what you say - here, in Spain, we are relying on google translate, but everyone is very friendly and I just smile a lot)

Weather has been a bit hit and miss - sadly I think more misses are coming up, which is a shame as scenery could be stunning, especially is you like water and roads are stunning with a few little bends and hills (the climbs come later).........
