Phillip Island 250F

As a lead up event to the Melbourne Grand Prix, this last weekend hosts an Historic Car Meeting that attracts many cars from around Australia and some international cars.

This year there were three Maserati 250F cars on the track, all shipped over from the USA.

They looked beautiful, sounded sensational, and were incredibly fast on the track.

The Montecarlo took part in this event rather than the AC due to the Historic nature of the event, so I have included a creative photo a friend took in the mirror of his Sunbeam Tiger.

Hopefully I will be able to share some better close up shots after this weekend's Grand Prix.

Regards,
Stephen

Fantastic! I was down there in October, the weekend before they hosted the superbikes. It's a fantastic spot.

Yes, it is a beautiful setting for a great race track.
Probably not quite big enough for a Formula 1 race, but spectacular scenery for other events.
There was also a P51 Mustang flying overhead during part of the event.
I was getting ready to do a parade lap with the other display cars so I did not manage to get a photo!

Matt,
The weather was picture postcard perfect; about 28 degrees (85 deg fahrenheit in your neck of the woods), blue sky and mostly sunshine.
I have attached another couple of photos, including the Tiger as requested.
My friend had his Tiger doing approxiamtely 130mph on the "parade" lap!

Another couple of photos, only this time taken at the Grand Prix in Melbourne.
I was lucky enough to be in one of the corporate boxes above the pits; however getting a photo of the F1 cars as they went by was extremely difficult.
As promised I managed to get a couple of more photos of the 250F, and a couple of others that may be of interest.
The Alfa Romeo 8C was provided to me by a friend of mine (I did not see the car on the day).
There must only be a few of these in Australia as they were not sold here, and being available only in LHD cannot be registered for road use here.
It is a beautiful car.
If you have sharp eyes you will see a DeLorean in the background complete with flux capacitor!
Some "Back to the Future" fan has realised his dream; no comment.

Hi Scarlan, Stephen,

Lovely photos did you enjoy the GP. weather wasn't bad in the end... I had to work some of it this year so didn't go to all 4.5 days of it like last year..

Hi OzzieAl,
TBH I thought the race was a little boring.
If Vettel races away like that each GP Webber will be complaining about having a lesser car all over again.
I thought Ferrari would have done better, as their straight line speed was impressive.
I was also amazed at how quiet their cars sounded.
ATEOTD they are truly remarkable pieces of technology.

The 250 looks like it has the dimensions of a go-kart and the Tiger has the wheels of a go-kart! Great cars though, would love either one or, even better, both, and an 8c, oh, and a gullwing, and a big house in Australia. Bugger, back to reality!
