Well, I'm in the big boy's league now aren't I!! Despite having owned a 2010 997 Turbo which was a genuine supercar in every way (except maybe looks), it was actually pretty reasonable in the running costs....indeed, my AMG and BMW M's were more costly to run.

But Maserati....WOW. These are in a different league.

Firstly, the extended warranty on my car when the manufacturer one runs out in September is £2500 for one year - thats about 20% more than Porsche and 100% more than BMW M. This I can live with as I did research this before buying it and the price I paid for the car was well below what I would have paid in a main dealer with a warranty (and as such I'm happy to buy the warranty).

But what I wasn't expecting was the price of simple consumables.

My car went into Graypaul today to have a couple of issues looked at. Firstly, the drivers wing mirror glass was loose as a spring had come out and secondly, the exhaust has a slight rattle on start up. The first thing was fixed and they're going to replace the entire rear section of the exhaust under warranty - for a very slight rattle, thats good result I reckon! Then I made the mistake of asking for them to change the wiper blades as they were a bit smeary and probably had never been replaced in the 2 years since it was new.

The cost of these wasn't a reasonable £20-30 like in most cars. They weren't even the £50 that I've paid before on one of my BMW's. Ohhhh no.....Maserati blades are made of a special kind of metal and rubber - the special kind that ensures they cost £106 - and that was AFTER a 20% discount!

So, what other scary costs can I expect guys?

By the way - please don't flame me for moaning about running costs on one of these, I'm happy to accept there is a premium and would never buy a car like this if running costs were a concern. But those wipers....that's just insane!

.............wiper blades..............I know we found a 4200/3200 match for these....works out around £15 incl postage.....maybe less............but am afraid until someone decides to dip their toe into alternatives and does a lot of research, expect pay a kings ransom for all and every part for GTs.....Matt said a mate of his over did it in the brakes department on a track day and has to fork out £3000......

Suspect you'll be doing some research pretty soon Palmball..........................and hopefully you find a few gems to start taking the sting out of GT ownership as the years pass an they get to be 4/5 yrs old.

Aarrgghh d@mn...I did want originals hence I accepted the price - they do seem to have a specific wiper-arm avoiding design on the drivers side so I can't see an aftermarket blade fitting.

In all honesty, I do know the guy at Graypaul so he personally won't have ripped me off (and the invoice clearly shows the discount from the original price)....must be the astronomical main dealer prices. You're all right though - I need to do some researching on parts for this car but I just wasn't expecting the wipers t be so much so was caught out. Enough of the excuses, thanks Safrane and Parisien for the alternative suggestions!

I dread to think what brakes are going to cost - I'll start investigating now!

Brakes are expensive (£2.5-3k) but take a look at Audi RS models and they are very similar.

I was quoted £1800 for one year and £2600 for two years for the extended warranty. Phone a couple of dealers as prices may differ.

Sorry for not looking elsewhere but have you bought a 4.2 or a 4.7S? I guess it will not be a 4.7S Auto (what I have ordered) if your car is three years old later in the year.

Its a 4.7S MC Shift. It's the only one with the 'loud' exhaust option from the sport button I believe. The auto on the other hand is much smoother so you pays you money and...well, you get it!

I know what you mean about other makes. My C63 AMG had composite front brake discs (note - not ceramic but composite...only a slight upgrade from standard discs) and they started to crack from the holes. I actually managed to get them replaced under warranty but only after I escalated a complaint to MB UK's president as they originally said the cracks (of over an inch and at various points round the disc) were within tolerance! Unfortunately, my dealer ordered the discs before getting authorisation from MB's warranty dept. and the service manager shat himself when the claim initially got declined - he'd have been stuck with the discs until they sold them and MB Loughborough aren't the worlds biggest AMG dealer. Why was he so concerned? Well, each front disc COST THE DEALER nearly £900 - so that was £1800 cost price for two front discs with a retail at least another £150 per disc on top of that, plus of course the pads.

There's no correlation between a part and it's perceived value sometimes and manufacturers just take the p!ss if they can get away with it - I suppose they've got to make their money somewhere but surely it's counterproductive being so extortionately expensive as many people will just go elsewhere

I really think they don't care......................sure if you're buying new or up to 3 yrs old ( via dealers), after that its raspberries all around.

After all if there wasn't a 2nd hand demand, why would you buy new!!??

We and this forum just have to be inventive, use all means we can to drive the costs down as they get 5/6/7 yrs old and keep them on the road!

I've heard they're obscenely expensive to run too. Are you getting 12mpg? That's meant to be about as good as you'll get in a 4.7. Gonna be a while till I can afford to run one.

I'm only getting 15 out of my spyder. Am I doing something wrong?

15's about right. 20 is the best I've managed but 15-17mpg is what I've always had out of GS & 4200. QP tended to be around 12 though.

No mention of brake alternatives on Maseratilife......but it only becomes an issue when they need replacement....not quite there yet for the vast majority of them yet!!!

One for Belfast again Frank , pretty sure they can refurbish the existing pads for very reasonable money , which is okay if its not your everyday car , altho Belfast do have a very efficient turn around when requested

Anyone prepared to donate their frst set of turismo front and rear pads, and i'll pay to have them refurbed and tested

Ideally all they need are a few tracings, for size and thickness of originals...see if a comparators out there.......same applies for discs.....?....wasn't aware you could redo b/pads.

Im pretty sure the Turismo Pads will not be comparative with anything else comparative or cheaper on the aftermaket front ( please feel free to shoot me down in flames ) many new owners will be pleased if you do , seems to me they have deliberately set out with many new Qp and Turismo parts to collar and retain their market share hope im wrong
