Hardly surprising with an Elise but it's astonishing how big tyres, or wheels, are. I had four winter tyres delivered to my local Citroën dealer and I had ordered four steel rims for them, had agreed a price for fitting, balancing and swapping them over onto my car.

The C6 is a big car - with folding down rear seats and a huge loading space - but I only just managed to squeeze all four summer wheels in, to get them home. I was contemplating a second trip at one point.

I had a rear puncture on the Diablo once. So on the roadside I had to remove the wheel and fit the skinny emergency wheel/tyre. But obviously, the great big fat rear wheel and tyre doesn’t fit back into the storage space the emergency one lived in. So the only thing for it was to put it on the passenger seat. Luckily I didn’t have a passenger with me, and it was a dry day so the tyre wasn’t mucky. But even so, hardly an ideal piece of design.

Something similar happened to a guy I know with a Lotus Esprit Turbo, unfortunately it was on the way back from a nightclub in the early hours and the young lady he had picked up in the short white dress wasn't pleased with a dirty road wheel sitting on her lap. Needless to say he lucked out that night and slept alone ;)

Looks very good but those are the wrong clamps. You need the stainless band clamps... Of course they are an odd size, to avoid paying the maserati premium I got 2&1/4 inch clamps from profusion and got them stretched on a press to fit cost only £7 each vs £15+vat from ES
