Non car related - I need a new LCD for my TV...

Hi all

This has got eff all to do with cars, but we have a wide range of skills, etc, on here, so I thought I‘d see if anyone can help.

I bought a new TV for my gym last month, and stupidly decided to install it myself. This all was going fine, but then something fell of the shelf above where I was putting it, hit the screen, and cracked the LCD.

The TV wasn’t that expensive (it’s an LG 50 Inch 50UN7300), and I’ve already bought another one for the gym. However, this means I’ve got a brand new TV, never been used, and I‘m trying to find out where I can buy a new or 2nd hand LCD screen from that I can replace the broken one with?

Any ideas?

Bravo to you for wanting to fix it rather than throw it away / recycle it, but I bet you the price of a pint or two the replacement screen will either not be available, or will cost more than you paid for the TV in the first place.
It’s one of the problems with this strange world we live in.

Cost to manufacture something that is mass produced in an efficient manner is far less than shipping a single item to a competent repairer and his time.

But a new one and WEEE skip the old one.

Google gave me this link

thanks Scaf - I’ve sent them a request...

I’ve already bought another of the same tv, but it feels such a waste binning the one I broke as it’s brand new. If I can’t fix it I will stick it on eBay in case anyone wants it for spares...

My Dad used to run a company that did warranty repairs and with most makes of TV if the LCD was gone it was beyond economic repair as the screens are about the same price as a new TV.

I’ve been looking for a 40-42” for my man cave as I feel that’s the right size...was surprised in Curry’s because as you say, the 50’s are that cheap it’s folly to get the smaller one..
As MLC says, not worth it, I used to fix tv’s, white goods etc as a sideline (shush) when I was in the military....was quite lucrative for a while, now, unless it’s an easy fix I don’t even bother fixing my own stuff.

good range from costco, bought a couple of 50 inch pioneer plasmas some some 14/15 years ago for 12k , must of been on drugs, pioneer are fantastic top quality plasmas with the separate media box and still going strong to this day, bit of a shame pioneer don't make tv's anymore, apparently they were so well made that there was no real profit margin for them

Broken Screens:

If the LG TV (or any other TV for that matter) has a damaged and broken screen panel. Then it is never economical for repair. It will cost the customer more than the TV’s value to have a new screen replaced. Screen panel makes up for 90% of the TV’s value and when you add labour on top, it will never be viable to have a screen replaced.

My Panasonic 49" LED developed a black line through the middle of the picture, was only a couple of years old, and just out of guarantee, after some research (Google lol) I discovered this was a common problem, and if you were persistent Panasonic would contribute to repair costs, so after a phone call expressing my displeasure having always had Panasonic TV's blah blah, they agreed if I paid for engineers visit, they would cover parts, so he came and took it away, saying it was a B I T C H of a job replacing the screen, took about 2 weeks, he said if I had to pay for it all, would have cost more than I paid for the TV in the first place! (about £600) cost me About £100 for the call out fee.

LG do a repair on site service i believe for screens over 32inch.

Its worth an email or live chat with them to get a repair estimate.

Its often not economical to repair for new TVs as the replacement part and labour can be excessive.

i can trump that, ive got 6 pioneer tv's in the house and all going strong, not noticed the heat thing, picture quality is fab and that's all i want them to do, not in to all these smart tv's etc, the main reason i bought pioneer many years ago is that they were the only company that made plasmas with the separate media box so could wall hang the tv's and then bury the single cable in the wall to the media box in a unit anywhere in the room, no visible cables and then could connect the dvd, surround sound receiver, virgin/sky box etc to the pioneer media box and all out of sight

Ones a 720p and the other a 1080p, the heat is certainly a factor, one was in my bedroom and it definitely was noticable.

I only have Apple TV's they are the canine's gonads, stuff yer Firesticks etc, Apple TV is fast, fluid and logical Captain.

clearly i'm in the stone age with my pioneers, in my day i loved owning all the modern tech stuff but now its simply too mind boggling for me, bring back the good old days with just 3 channels and no remotes ;)
