Noisy F1 changes.

Good evening,

I've had my MC shift for 3 years and noticed the gear changes seem to be getting more clicky/clacky and occasionally a ping. Don't think its a bad noise, shift just fine but more annoying and slightly embarrassing. Anyone experienced something similar and found levers to clean and oil underneath to make things quieter or is it all internal? Can't see any threads on the issue, only cars not shifting, but without a post lift its hard to poke around without a plan in mind and good footage under the car in that area is scant. Any advice?

Can an expert weigh-in, here, and advise if a "Relearn" should occur, to re-map the respective engaged gear positions, and accordingly account for actuator- and/or shift rod, shift fork, etc. wear?

As I understand it, a Relearn is much less fraught of an operation than a DEIS...?

I suppose the first question is, are the shifts and clutch engagement in any way hesitant or slow?

At low speed with the windows open you will hear some clacks and clicks when the system shifts.

It’s a hydraulic system, so there are no levers and pins to lubricate, if the shifts in terms of speed etc are normal the ping could be something in the drive line, but without hearing it, it would be hard to judge.

There is no reason to do a relearn unless you are getting unusual behaviour in the actual shifts.

Thanks everyone. I sorted one of the noises, the exhaust flaps needed oiling as that was making a very stiff metal noise when turning the car off. The ping I think is due to clutch actuation, any advice there to reduce the noise?

Also shift are normal speed, no hesitation. Pulling away from cold the system takes a bit of effort to smooth out but when up to temp is much better. Also is there a way to increase clutch desengagment under lighter braking, going down gears from heavy braking is smooth but theres some rubbing under lighter braking. Does the Formula Dynamics piggyback achieve this?

A thought, before starting do you turn the key half way, let all the dash lights go out and then turn off and ignition on?
I was always told that gives time for the clutch to calibrate before start up.

Just turning straight on from cold doesn’t give time Pre-ignition.

I always follow that process and notice a difference in Shift smoothness.
