Newbie with 57' granturismo and sat nav problems

HI all,

I am a newbie and hoping someone can help point me in the right direction here.

I have a newly purchased 57 plate granturismo, with a problem with the sat nav system. The maserati logo is stuck on the screen. I have had the car checked by Merdien in Lyndhurst, as it was booked in for a software reinstall to try and solve the problem. However the issue is with the Magneti Marelli nit unit, it has gone a bit further than just a software issue. Been quote around £4500 for new unit! I am trying to source a replacement unit secondhand, or someone who can possibly repair. I have heard of a man in Spain who does repair these units but then requires the software, but merdien do not want to give me this.

Can anybody help? Or know of a friendly place that can repair?

The second problem I have is, that the guy i bought the car from had put in a aftermarket system to replace the original, (i think the new unit price tag scared him) and the company who fitted the unit cut the gsm cable end off from behind the unit, so possible need new wire loom or new plug in end to fit back into the back of the unit. At the moment it has disabled the multifunction steering wheel functions. So i need a wiring diagram and pin configuration diagram to put it back correctly.

any help is very much appreciated! :)

Hi Kellykj and welcome to the finest Maserati forum in the world.

I'm sure someone will be along shortly who can give some good pointers but that does sound a bit of a sod to resolve. I hope the buy price reflected the issue and I assume it was a private purchase not a dealer?

Good luck OP. I've only used the sat nav screen in my Maseratis as a fitting place to stick my TomTom cradle. I wouldn't trust those old sat navs to take me to the local shops.

HI ALL,
very happy today as i have sourced a another head unit! :)
Just waiting for it delivery so can get fitted!
Lot cheaper than a new one!
Thank you to David Askew for suggesting a place to look!

The satnav and media thing is absolutely shocking in my opinion. I thought they spent the money they saved on it on the car's looks but at 4.5k I was clearly mistaken. It'd have been better if they'd left a hole there to put your European road atlas in.

Did you buy the car from Meridien and if so was the fault pointed out to you before you purchased the car. If not the car will be guaranteed by Maserati Used Warranty

NIT unit is the whole HW system tell me how you got on as it could be a similar fault to me

Hi, I had the same problem as the others. Mine was stuck on a loop between Maserati logo, radio on, radio off and a flash of a map ! Nothing could be done, took it to two Maserati dealerships and one indy ........ only option was a new unit ! (£4,000 was the best quote).
It all happened when I tried installing the updated sat nag discs whilst driving ............... the hard disc must have crashed and damaged the FAT or something technical like that. So a word of warning to others, I don't even drive now whilst loading CDs onto the Jukebox !
I managed to get a second hand unit from flea bay in perfect condition for £150 !!!! obviously the guy selling had no idea of it's value, and to boot I sold the damaged unit to a chap in Belgium for £75 quid (informed him of the problem ahead of sale of course).

Useful background. Is there now someone offering an exchange refurb as I can't imagine people being prepared to pay RSP for these.

Try Revtronic in Bradford. It may mean a drive to them to test but could be worth it. (Revtronic.com)
