Quite often newbies, myself included, post as new owners on the forum but with well known 'new' cars.
Can we newbies list our registrations to see if regular posters have previous knowledge and history of the cars? Or is this a security risk with cloning?
Would love to have a bit more history on my car but it has had a few registration/plate changes and may be known under another reg. Any thoughts?

I would post with one letter missing, then you haven’t got that risk. You have to remember that the forum is available to the whole internet so there is an element of risk.

This isn’t really a classified add so I’ll pop it in the 3200/4200/GS section.

Sorry, thanks for the re-direction.

I've got a couple of names from receipts but not contacted them. First thing I did wben I was seriously looking to buy was to join the forum, so hopefully previous owners may be like minded. Mine is 4200 CC, LJ54 *WK

When I sold my first 4200 I posted the reg and history in the hope it would help a future owner.

Lozzer, I went to view your car at a garage in St. Helen's, Lancs but wasn't in a position to buy just then. Salesman told me it needed cam belts and a full service which could be negotiated on the price. He had a folder with some receipts for work done and said the car had been in Hungary for a few years previously. I don't know if you bought it from there, or if you're local to that area.

On one of the MX-5 forums, for a bunch of the rarer versions people post up VINs. I'd always thought it would be nice if people could tag their posts with a VIN as there is usually way more detail in a post than in service history. It would help with things like dealerships buying troubled cars then flogging them off to the unsuspecting, and as these cars age their mileage is getting tampered with more heavily. Almost all the Australian cars I've seen have been wound back, or the import certificate was "lost", coincidentally when the instrument cluster was replaced... The other common change here is that people refaced the dials for compliance but the odometer is still in miles, there are a few like that for sale at the moment.

Hi, yes I did ,and it did, along with an upgraded tb all done by Autoshield before I bought it, there are reciepts and correspondence from the guy who had it out in Hungary in the file, still knocked them down a bit on price though, probably because it had been sat in the showroom for that long lol
