Oooh, ordered one of those, very nifty for lost plastic items.

£3 on eBay for just the magnet claw tool, free postage. Search: pick up tool US Pro
Thanks Conaero, just ordered one. I’ll chuck it in my toolbox and hopefully will come in handy one day.

Looks like the airbag thing was the cable getting moved about when the passenger seat is adjusted.

I bought an obdii reader, curiosity mostly. When I plug it in the car dash lights up like a Xmas tree. It settles on parking brake failure and check suspension. Also says msp unavailable go to dealer.

reader says zero DTC, and when I unplug it and start the car these faults and lights do not appear.

any advice gratefully received, should I be worried or is the obdii scanner just off the shelf and creating havoc?

Sounds like you've got a dodgy OBD reader there and / or a knackered / dying battery

What’s the best way to tell if the battery is on its way out? Aside from just replacing it! Is there something I can check to make sure or is it just these kinds of tell tale signs?

Often you get spurious alerts and warning lights....

You can buy battery testers or ask Halfords to test it for you.

But if under normal circumstances you're not getting odd lights, I'd just bin the OBD reader and move on. It's not going to read EPB or airbag faults anyway.

I had an Ultragauge on my 4200. In all other conditions the car was fine. Plug the Ultraguage in and it would turn the panel lights on and off every 2 seconds.
It was Italian. No one else had an issue with the things :)
