Congrats Lozzer. Making time for people is the most important thing I've learned, even if they want to talk about their sick cat. Lead by example and try to guide don't do it for them and as others have said, be yourself; you'll be fine.

Congratulations!

It is an increasingly rare transition in todays business world.

In the early 1980's Mark McCormack (founder of IMG) wrote a book on management that gave some great advice on the transition from an individual contributor to a manager. To summarize broadly, being a manager is about celebrating the success of your team rather than celebrating your own accomplishments.

My only other piece of advice, don't be afraid to make decisions. Even if they are wrong, they will point you to the right answer.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the encouragement guys, I appreciate it, it really is something I can't turn down, I don't mind making mistakes, as long as I can remember I've never made the same one twice , currently I'm always there to support my fellow workers, to the point of doing it for them (i need to refrain that), and that includes project engineers too , being assertive with desicions sound right too, many times I've rolled my eyes when trying to move things forward with someone in command, thanks again chaps, watch this space, I'm going in.

Good luck and remember to pick your fights carefully (is it worth it?) and listen before making a decision, but question if you don't understand.

Actually a big well done to you. Big move but you must have what it takes or you wouldn't have got the position. Always learn by your mistakes as you will make them as we all do. You will learn everyday and use these learning to shape you style but remember you will need lots of different styles as one style will not suit all colleagues and you need to adapt to get the most out of all colleagues. Enjoy.

Leading people is the hardest thing and takes constant effort, as others have said, it's ongoing throughout your career.

I've been fortunate to have continuous leadership development for around 15 years. You've got my contact info, feel free to get in touch and I'd be happy to offer my insight.
