In london it appears that the new maserati owners in GT, QP or GTS dont understand the brand and come from a bmw or jag back ground....

My friend is a good example, sold his SL amg to buy a GTS....

It bothered me when i was out and at the lights came a GT whos driver was giving me dirty looks, almost saying "driving that old maser puts mine down, go away"

I dont get respect from them, other drovers like bentley aston im alright....
Whats it like across the country??

I tried to take him on at the lights but my lane went into his so he got infront....*******....

It does annoy me, we are loosing the marque as maserati have now decided to use chrysler engines and bring a 4x4 the brand will be gone in the eyes of enthusiast....

Not saying your like that here, we are a forum, but the people im talking about would never join a forum...

Interesting post.

Guess it doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks. Only your opinion matters.

Take your point about possible dilution of the brand. That's exactly what's happened to Alfa over the last couple of years.

Death of the Arese V6. Introduction of GM and now Chrysler engines with some FIAT diesel donks.

Part of the reason I abandoned ship.

Maser needs to be Ferrari-based V8, or maybe even V6. Chrysler Pentastar V6 in a Maser, IMO, will tarnish the marque.

Don't think the Maser SUV is an issue, as long as it has a Ferrari-sourced engine.

Engine is beating heart of any Italian car...no ifs or buts...they can design or gather most of the other parts elsewhere( which they do already)....but not the engine.......everything else flows from that

Yes i agree, all about the engine, the V6 in my GTV was the best then when i got a brera courtesy car i hated the new one....

It does matter what YOU think, no one else but the way they look at you as if your in something so cheap to just say you drive a "maserati"

I tend not to acknowledge the newer model cars.

However, I came across a brand new GTS last week on the North Circular. I pulled alongside. The car was driven by a guy in his sixties. When we exchanged glances, he was grinning from ear to ear and gave me a thumbs up. I then showed him how to proceed on the North Circ. when you know where all of the speed cameras are.

Interesting to note the "snob" factor amongst certain owners of newer/older Masers.

Must say, haven't heard of that sentiment here in Oz.

Especially when you can pay up to 66,000 British Pounds for an '06 GranSport with 24k Miles.

Am not qualified to comment on the snob thing being Irish.........cos we just measure people by how they hold their alcohol..........

In my instance I must be the lowest of the low.....;)

Lets clear this myth about engines, shall we.
Maserati are going to bring 3 new models out, over next 2 years. Quattroporte, Lavente [about size of a BMW 5 series], and a 4x4. Engines will be V8, based on current 4.7, but turbo charged, a V6 with twin turbos, based on Ferrari F1 engine.
Same V6 will be available to Alfa. Last a 300bhp VM Motori Diesel. This will go in the 4x4, and the lavente. It is said, the V8 will make around 520bhp, and be bespoke to Maserati. Both V8 and V6 will be built at Ferrari, so no watering down, of Maserati's image.

Sounds Good.

Still seems to be just "reports" and speculation though, just like the Pentastar talk.

Would be good to get an official statement from Fiat Spa.

Car an Driver, are one of the most respected publications in the business. They do get a lot of inside info.
Sounds to me, Ferrari/Maserati, looked at the Penstar V6, and rejected it!
I will have a look for more official news.

As long as they can keep as true to their heritage as possible, thats as much as we can hope for....commercial considerations now take precedence over whims and history

Lots of reports of Maserati going to do this and that with new models, but my own view (and what I was told during a recent dealership visit) is that for the immediate future we are just going to see tweaks to the existing line.

A single platform keeps costs down, and this is what got Maserati back into profitability.

Is there a published release date for the Cowabunga?
