Doubtless a wiring fault, trace back and check, and clean any contacts etc....otherwise both lights would be on if it was a brake switch problem!

Yes, agree with Frank, but there is always the chance that the other brake light bulb has blown, worth checking first, as the brake pedal switch has been known to go.

If so, you have a short somewhere, remove the brake bulb and may as well change it, then start with the light housing first, make sure the tracks all look ok, then trace back with a mulimeter, the fault will be relatively close the the light unit.

Conaero, yep done all that first thing I did was replaced both bulbs just in case (I know what car circuits are like one bulb on means another one is out or shorted open or closed ) and checked all the obvious with me AVO 8 showing my age now., obviously got a short somewhere but where o where,I am now pretty sure it not anywhere in the boot just spoke to Marenello's must be despirate ....... Shaun, who is usually actually very help said one of their techies said there is an aircon coolent drain on the passanger side which can back up into the car if it's gets blocked and could be causing a short so will check the carpets to night but I had them out when I checked the fuses but was not looking for dampness (silly me ) actually I like the idea of having a hot/cold tub in the car ..

Will report back when I've check the water level in foot well .......

Thanks Guys,

Could well be the problem, beacause I no longer have a damp patch in the garage in the morning, conaero very detailed explaination with photo's fantastic will make the job a whole lot easier, pollen filter(s) were replaced last service, but I will strip out the whole lot at the weeked and clean thoroughly anyone know if there are there any conectors in the vacinity which might carry the cable(s) to the brake light, I will check and add to the post if it is the problem..

Thanks again, will report back..

(that's my weekend sorted and got to get the GXSR MOT'd)
