No probs Dem, when the fault is someone else,s, its an even bigger pain, hopefully you'll get some satisfaction now........and an apology, and ask them for your normal hourly rate for the time you've spent on this...:)

This happened to me with the SL500 and we eventually got to the bottom of it.
If you offer the car to a dealer as a PX and they do an hpi check they can put in the milage in the search to get a value on the car based on milage.
Now if you have a car that has done 27,000 miles on wednesday when one dealer did a search... then on the friday another one does a search but puts in 59,640 miles for some weird reason, then the Hpi check updates the milage to the new figure.
So when your private buyer does his Hpi check he gets the discrepency from what you are saying and what the dodgy dealership stated was the milage for there search.
I had to threaten Hpi with legal proceedings if they did not correct the mistake and they directed me to the NMR as they said they could not remedy this issue but could see where the problem has eminated from and which dealer (it was an online delaer on ebay that saw my registration on the sale and did all this to me).
The NMR at first they wanted all my service records and old MOTs.
I told them that i would not do this but if they called Mercedes Exeter they would confirm that the milage cannot be tampered on an SL500 as its digital ,but also if they checked the last few Hpi checks they would see that 3 showed 27,000 in a few days and then the milage shot to 57000 in less than a week.this was not possible and that the onus was on them to correct false information because if my buyer walked i would sue for the loss of the sale as they could clearly see that the car could not do 30000 miles in 2 days !
They sorted it within 48 hours and even phoned me back to confirm it had been corrected.
So in reality... some unscrupulous dealer could scupper your chances of a private sale and devalue your car just by being a git and entering a false milage.
If it had been a typo then fair enough but this was a random figure and the dealer later had the cheeck to send me an email stating that he thought that my milage was incorrect and that he did not trust the reading.
I think this may be some ebay scam
