My turn for a central locking question!

Hi guys

I've read the other post recently re this and it seems my symptoms are slightly different so just putting it out there to all you wonderful gurus for some advice if I may....

A normal unlocking procedure today via the blipper left me with the alarm being turned off but not unlocking the door so I had to unlock with the key and as I did so and opened the door, there was a series of 12-15 lock/unlocks from the door mechanism itself. I thought that was a bit weird but everything else on the car worked normally so I carried on. Now though I have the following situation whereby pressing the blipper will arm the alarm and you can hear the locking of the door but this is immediately followed by the unlocking of the doors although the alarm is still set and will activate on opening the door.

Pressing the blipper again turns off the alarm but there is no noise from the door locks - presumably as they are already unlocked? Anyway, now I cannot physically lock the doors, either with the blipper or the key as they keep locking/instantly unlocking so whilst the alarm can be set/turned off the doors cannot be locked so hardly ideal!!

I've done a 30-min battery reset, checked the relevant fuses (33 & 40) and they are fine but can't find any reference to relays and which one controls the door locking - is there one and if so does anyone know which one/where it might be please?

Also there seems to be nothing obvious obstructing the locks externally so basically, I'm stuffed!! Any ideas please folks??

Cheers

Odds on there's a sitcky mechanism in one of the locks. Have you tried the key from the passenger side? Anecdotally it's often the passenger mech that gets stuck as it's not used as much. You may also get some results if you operate the buttons inside.
Not sure how much, if any help, lubricating the locks would be, but if there's no resolution trying the above it'll be door cards off, I fear.

No biggie to fix, parts are cheap if required, and door card is only about 10 minutes to remove.

I had similar issues. I was able to lock/unlock car manually on passenger side which also had the benefit of confirming that it was the drivers side door lock/solenoid mechanism that needed replacing. They are same locks for 3200 and 4200 so readily available for about £50. (I had to swap the new plastic arm for old metal arm). I did the work myself and it is fairly straight forward - just really awkward where double jointed wrists would be useful to get actuator arm clips on and off.

Catman and Steve - thanks for the replies and it seems Catman and Gordon of our Oz Forum was correct.!!

This morning a quick double check (just in case it had miraculously cured itself overnight!) showed it to be situation normal, i.e. still not working properly.

I read Catman and Gordon's comments re sticky mechanism and sprayed some lube in obvious places and waited. Had to go out anyway so took my baby with me and by the time I got to the place I was going, hey presto, all central locking/alarm systems functioning as they should!!! I’ve been testing it on and off since and still she is behaving. Whether this is was an early sign of impending solenoid doom or whether it’s solved the issue I know not right now and further problems will necessitate door card removal and parts replaced as per Steve's situation but for now I’m a happy man!!

Thanks once again for the replies guys!

Glad it's working Gary. Not sure quite how you managed to get any lube in bits that move with the remote locking from the outside, but if you freed off the passenger side, all well and good :)
