Interesting. I have a GTS with the handling pack so I have the Strad suspension.

I really need to get into a Strad and see if there really is a difference for me and whether it is just that extra race mode that makes the difference.

Stuart, some comments on both points, now 5 months into my ownership:

- gearshift. I thought it was dreadful during slow manoeuvring, but that ALL changed when some saint gave me the start up tip, which I assume you know, but will repeat: put key in, turn to dash light up position, and leave it there for 4 seconds or so - I wait until the airbag light stops flashing - and then start. "butter smooth" slow driving shifts!

Enjoy!

Thanks for this reminder, tried this this morning and definitely made a difference........:luvit:

Does having the handling pack mean that a GTS without Skyhook has it. My car was optioned with the Sport and comfort packs but I don't know if it had the handling pack as well.

No (as standard) but the Handling Pack was a cost option, not sure if it was a factory fit or just dealer.

The GTS came with a fixed rate set up as standard but many had skyhook as an option. The GTS Auto had skyhook as standard but there was a NCO to get the GTS set up, not sure any did mind. Cant' remember which gearbox your car has but I presume it is an auto as the Sport Pack was only offered on the auto IIRC. Anyway, does the suspension stiffen up when you press Sport?

I have a GTS Auto...and yes the suspension does stiffen up when I press Sport so that must mean I have the handling pack as well...right?

I had understood that the MC Handling Pack is different to the Sport Pack.

The MC Handling Pack changes the ride height (by about 10mm), adds different brakes and pads, and I think makes for stiffer suspension all round (not just when the Sport button is pressed).

However, I may be wrong, so will wait with interest for one of the experts to turn up...

No it means you have the normal skyhook suspension as fitted to the GTS Auto as it firms up when the button is pressed. The Sport Pack includes body kit, exhaust valve changes when in Sport and gearshift changes when in Sport but no changes to the suspension over the stock system which is two way switchable via using the Sport button.

PS Too much use of 'Sport' in cars these days.

Better yet, turn the key to the dash light up position then turn it off again. Then turn all the way to start. This works on all MC Shift cars, takes away the low speed stutter. Do it. Trust me.

That is what I was trying to say the result was! Will try your method too. Thanks

Yes, the MC Handling Pack is just a firmer fixed rate set up than the GTS comes with as standard. The GTS Auto has skyhook instead.

I think it also has the grooved brake discs which come with the GT Sport as standard although I was not aware of any differences with pads or indeed brake disc size.

Pump the accelerator pedal too a few times on the first key on. It makes the gear changes very smooth.

Agreed, this should be followed for every journey. Again, it is something that journalists should have been told to do and maybe the reviews of the gear change would have been more kind

I am wondering where this came from? I agree reviews were very harsh on the 'box for this reason. I even told the local Ferrari/Maserati service boss this "trick" when I was in for a service and he called me 2 days later to thank me, saying he would tell all his customers with the similar to do the same. I wonder if its common knowledge too in the Ferrari 599 that share the same 'box?

The throttle-pumping thing is a fallacy. All it does is buy time for the pump to time (or some other voodoo to happen). Get the same result by waiting for all the warning lights to go out, and then starting.

You are correct.

The sports kit vs MC handling pack are totally different.

The handling pack is a factory fit option.

It has the fixed MC springs. So pressing sport does not change the stiffness, but it is normally stiffer. If you look at cars that have them you will see the suspension is red and has the words MC inscribed on them.

In addition the car is 10mm lower and has grooved and drilled brake disks.
