I'm just waiting on clutch and brakes all round before I start to shed real tears.

Remove nitrogen from tyres ????

When I got new tyres last year, Micheldever filled them all with nitrogen. I really don't like it and prefer to monitor my own tyre pressure and adjust if necessary rather than having to go back to a garage to sort it.

Why would it prevent you from monitoring or adjusting?

WHS - air is 78% nitrogen. The main reason tyres are filled with bottled nitrogen is because it's dry. It is the moisture in normal air that causes most of the increase in pressure due to temperature. Putting a sniff of normal air in to adjust your tyre pressure will make little difference in the end.

You can just top up as normal having nitrogen in there doesn't make any difference at all

Really..always thought you had to top up with nitrogen and not o2.

Just checked online and you can...bloody Micheldever tyres. They said you cannot. I'm guessing they want me back to try and sell me more tyres.

This filling with Nitrogen is just snake oil for road cars. I can see that there is a tiny tiny advantage in using dry Nitrogen, but in reality none of us would be able to tell what was in the tyres. It's just another way for tyre shops to increase their margins by charging a few quid for what's mostly air. And for all you know, it could just be air... I've always refused to pay for special air in my tyres!

Air isn't 02 anyway. Only about 20%. Much more than that and it becomes toxic....

(for certain values of 'much')

I agree, I only do it because I get it for free

Lol they may have just meant if you want to keep it 100% nitrogen then go back to them in their defence.

N2 is used as its stable and dry, with no water molecules there's less expansion. Aircraft use it as it stops water droplets freezing at altitude and then rapidly expanding and blowing the tyre on landing when the temp jumps up quickly on touching the Tarmac

Race cars use it for more control over tyre pressures for basically the same reasons. Does no harm but is 100% snake oil for road cars. No harm in it though
