Most of the members on here...have to lie down....nearly every day.......they have bruise marks on their forearms....due to the regularity of the pinching..........Loz wears special forearms protectors, just like a professional footballer wears shin guards..........;)

Only winding Andrew............enjoy every moment........................my fav motto is.............

"If you're not going to be good to yourself.................who is?!"

Andrew, you get a little more MPG and power form it, so ultimately, a higher MPG so it cost less than the 95 over the grand scheme of things...well, that what I like to tell myself.

I use 97 also and find I get a little bit better MPG. Does it save over the long term? Not sure but that's the way I've always gone with the Mas.

I get cica 240 miles per tank, mixed cycle with 95 ron. With the 97/98 ron, I get a good 270 miles. Dont know the maths, but our tank is what, 88 litres, which is approx 19.4 gallons, so thats average 12.3mpg on 95 ron and 13.9 on 97/98 ron.

Ok, I dont drain the tank and those figures sound horrific so I recon I use 16.5 gallons so that comes back at a more respectable 14.5 for 95 mpg ron and 16.4 mpg for the 97/98 ron, so getting approx 2 miles per gallon more from 97/98 ron.

Then if you look at the price difference between the 2, it works out about the same per £1.

You have to take into account the fact that the car defiantly performs better on the high octane, so do it is what I say and dont assume you are just burning a higher price fuel unnecessarily.

How reliable is the onboard computer at telling you the range, fuel consumption etc?

Must check it next time!....but kms per litre or is it miles?

It comes down to the ecu of the car and whether it actively adjusts the ignition advance based on the knock sensor feedback. Some ecu's just stick to their map values for ignition advance, others make an adjustment based on the knock sensor feedback and advance the ignition (creating more power) until the point of knock (detonation) and then pull it back a degree ot two - this type of system makes the most of higher RON fuels but for the other types of system it does no harm - I don't know what the Maserati ecu does

The better fuels, like Optimax, are supposed to have other benefits though such as cleaner burning, resulting in less coking around the valves and engine internals etc so I tend to stick with it for that reason alone

Anyway, Marios has just delivered the car back after an annual service, mot and fitting of the DBW module from Formula Dynamics - can't wait to go for a drive and find out what the paddle shifts feel like now - need to wait until home time though :(

I'll make a post in a few days of my impressions of the DBW module, a before and afterwards if people are interested
