Well after 6 fantastic years of total reliability its off to a new owner in Oz this week ,who hasn't even seen it (although he did get it inspected).
Only thing that ever went wrong were an airflow meter and rear suspension bushes.Amazing.

I shall miss it terribly, but with the GT in silver arriving Thursday (08/58 11000 miles) I shall soon have my Maserati i fix again.
I bought it privatley off a multi-millionaire car nut in Wales. He had 12 cars, he showed me his underground garage at his clifftop mansion:
Sitting there beside the Maserati were
Bugatti EB110
Diablo Spyder
Ferrari F40
Ferrari something else
Upstairs in his other garage were his new Bently GT conv, another Bently, a couple of 911's,Range Rover.....etc etc!!!!

Clearly I am in the wrong business!

Nice one Ratbag. If you do have to say goodbye to a Maserati, it's nice to know you'll soon say hi to it's younger sibling.

Would be good to hear your thoughts on the GT in comparison to the 4200 once you've got to know it?

Good on you.

I am debating the same move myself at the moment. I have been waiting for 4.2 GT prices to soften a bit and Maranello seem to be getting some stock through at more reasonable prices. Mind you, some of the other dealers need to shift 57 plate cars they have had up for the mid fifties for a long time. Its good to buy privately but finding someone who understands that he cannot charge main dealer retail for a private sale can be hard.

Can you expand about how you managed to sell your 4200 into Australia (could try the same with mine)?

Cheers

Conbgrats, on both fronts! There seems to be quite a few Maserati's heading south at the mo.....must be the strong AUD!

Well done on finding a GT privately too.

Apparantly there are a lot heading to OZ this year. The exchange rate is in their favour, they are RHD, and because of the low volume import numbers there is some sort of loophole that means they can be imported around the strict import rules relatively easy. ADG tell me they have shipped half a dozen this year.

Just place the usual ad on Pistonheads/Autotrader and you wil soon get several enquiries from Australia.

Dear All,
You are correct in all respects; the strength of the Australian dollar relative to the GBP is making the importation of low volume selling cars here a real bargain.
Phil H's car (which is now mine) arrived about 2 weeks ago and was on the same ship across as two 4200 coupes.
I might be biased, but I thought the 3200 AC looked the best!
The Compliance company that brings the cars up to Australian delivery specification is busy doing the same thing with Ferraris (mostly 360 Modenas) as well.
I have been looking for well over a year on Pistonheads, so that is one option, but in Phil's case I found he posted a note to someone else that posted a wanted thread.
The rest is history.
The AC is being delivered to the Compliance company tomorrow, so all going well I will have a registered Assetto Corsa on the roads here before too long.
With only ten sold here and in New Zealand officially, there are not too many of them about.
Good luck BigBob if you do sell to another Australian.
Regards,
Stephen

Well I did drop the car off this morning but it won't be ready to collect for a few weeks.
The workshop was testament to how many UK cars are making their way over here; two 360's two 3200GT's, two 4200's and a Ferrari 456, all with UK plates waiting for compliance.
I wonder whether cars like this should be advertised on Australian websites first!
Will be sure to take some photos next time, of mine at least.
Regards,
Stephen
