Just had the MOT after the car has been laid up for a while.

Fixed the known niggles with the car prior to the test but need to fix the following from the test sheet and I am looking for some advice.

Up until leaving the car for the test the central door locking worked fine, all of a sudden it now disarms the alarm unlocks the driver door but then immediately locks the passenger door?

I have a fluid leak apparently from the gearbox area, prior to test I tightened all of the F1 lines, is there a weak washer that perishes in this area, leak is on driver side of the box?

Handbrake lever travel is to far and is approx at a 65 degree angle. Is this likely to be stretched cables so they need replacing or is there an adjuster I can fiddle with the get more life out of them?

Brake discs front and back, I don't think there bad but apparently don't meet the standard of the tester. Where is the best place to buy them and any recommendation on brake pads would be appreciated!

Thanks

Mike

There is detail on this forum about brake spares, these are pattern parts but hundreds have been bought.
Central locking can be many things - get your battery on a Ctek or similar conditioner. Low voltage causes no end of weird issues.
Handbrake is a PITA but cables can certainly be replaced. Have no experience myself with adjustment of cable. The shoes themselves have an adjuster wheel which can be accesses when removing rear wheels.
IS the fluid leak an MOT fail??

Thanks I'll do a search for the brakes, battery is on conditioner now to see if that resolves the problem locks. Apparently a fluid leak is now a MOT fail......

The handbrake cable adjusts from underneath the car in the centre. Additionally the shoes are individually adjusted through a hole in the disc hub once you remove the wheel. The hole needs to be at 6 O'clock.

Thanks for the tip, should be easy to adjust especially when I'll be changing discs anyway.

Any trim pieces to remove from the bottom of the car to access the adjustment bolts?

Nothing to remove underneath. I fitted a new cable and that made a big difference to my handbrake operation. The outer casing was beginning to break up on the old one and was causing the inner to snag.

Have you measured your discs?

Three years and 20k miles ago I had an MOT done where the tester said that the rear discs were near the end of life and should be changed as soon as possible. They weren't and still don't need to be changed.

Haven't measured them, he failed them for being scored and pitted

The wife's Alfa was given a strong advisory when MOT'd by a Main Dealer about front discs being worn to only 500 miles left.
That was 2 years ago, and the car has passed its 2 following MOTs with flying colours...
