Today I watched my daughter drive away in a car, on her own, no L-plates. :)

:alan4:

That is all.

I know how you feel ..

I had the very same with my youngest 2 days ago ... you can't put into word how you feel inside ... they look so small behind the wheel of a car .. well mine does .. she is only 5ft 1 .. :)

Good evening btw ... I'm Joanne (Joe for short )from the other side of the forum .. just hopped over for a look around and saw this thread .. :)

Good evening Joe, and congratulations to you and your new driver! :)

Good evening and congratulations to you also .. :) However this is my youngest , I have been through this 3 years ago ... So I'm not what you call a newcomer to to the feelings that a parent has, watching their child drive away in to the wild blue yonder ... well Sheffield .. little bit dramatic there I suppose .. :D

I like my avatar .. I think she suits me ... :D (now dont anyone suggest moody woman .... :D )

Hi Joe,

Blush ... me thinks not ... I have worked in the Motor Trade for a wee while ( actually thats not strictly true ... its between the Motor Trade and NHS ) and there is nothing that would make me blush ... :D

Not going to hog this thread as I think its great for Fathers to openly say how they feel regarding their kids ... :) And what a nice thread this is ... :)

Like I say .. I just hopped over and this caught my eye ...

Now getting BOT ...

Kids ....

Well I'll start by saying that my daughter drives a Peugeot 206 ... I bought one for my eldest and it was good enough .. so its good enough for the youngest, .. :D Basically the parts are cheap and readily available and there good reliable little first time cars... ... :D My first car was a C reg Micra Called Phoebe :D .. now please remember that was back in the day ... 1991 to be precise .. :)

Anyway .. back to the youngest .. ( I do tend to drift off ... apologies )

I bought the car this time last year in anticipation of the youngest ( we shall call her that for now ) passing her test ... Good little car , slight paint work issue but , other than that in good order, full service history .. etc .. Service was done by my self .. on the drive way ... paintwork .. well .. TBH ... I never had it done .. One presumes she will have little incidents in the coming days, weeks months .. so .. no point in wasting good money ..

Insurance started on the 5th of this month at 00.00 .. Sure enough she asked her dad to take her out at 00.02 .. they didnt return till 01.30 .. Blimey I here you say .... Anyway ... youngest daughter of Joe (Joanne) decided she ought to take Mother shopping to Meadow Hall .. (local shopping complex for those of you who are out of the area ) ... Well what an even that was ...
Poor thing .... I'll be brief ... First of all Youngest had someone pull straight out in front of her at a major crossroads ... Youngest had right of way (green light ) when suddenly random idiot opposite for sdme reason thought they should proceed ... that was first incident ... We were in rush hour traffice which in sheffield is grim .. however there had been a bomb scare at local Asda , so double the traffic ... I then decided we should take a short cut ... (What a mistake .. Mother .. like most women has no sense of direction) So we ended coming back on our selves .. suddenly .. lane closed .. advised kid to signal and pull out .. alas she did just that .. ( with out looking in mirrors) .. straight into the path of an Audi ( didnt notice which model ... too busy pushing feet to floor to brake ) :( .. By now I needed the holy trinity .. Alcohol .. Caffeine and Nicotine ... But still I remained positive .. 'Said ... your doing really well ... ' .. wipes bead of sweat from brow .... :D Anyway .. we eventually make it to meadow hall ... In one piece ...

Seriously daughter did good ... despite stalling twice and trying to start a car that was already started ... ( thoughts in my head was ... Forget new clutch .. a blinking starter motor is whats needed ' ...

Since then she has got stuck and asked a random stranger to move her car ... oh well I'm sure I did something similar ...

But one thing is for sure ....

The eldest never gave me half the grief the youngest does ... :D

Anyway .. nice to meet you chaps ...

Like I said initially ... I will pop over from time to time to have a mosey around ... and keep an eye on this thread ...

However ... Alfa is where my heart lies .... :D

PS .. I do have the ability to talk technical should you wish .. however i prefer to have the more light hearted approach ..

Take care and good evening ...

I wish you all well ... :D

Drew ... its been a few weeks since your daughter passed .. how is she getting along .. ?

Day 6 of the new driver in our house and today my daughter has just discovered her car has a steering lock .. "shakes head"

I noticed that she seemed to be letting the "car warm up" for quite a long time .. or so I thought ..

however .. I then received a phone call asking why her car wouldn't start...

Hi Joe,

Shopping in Murderhell eh? Not a place for the feint hearted! Or feint of wallet, either... I'm told she's taking herself shopping there tomorrow evening.

I'm originally from Sheffield, so know the area well.

Daughter is doing pretty well - she's added a minor scuff to the car while parking, but nothing like the kind of damage her mother regularly inflicts on cars. Seems she has calculated the cost per mile, and has created a charging scheme for her friends needing lifts to/from school. I'm impressed....

I'm less impressed with the insurance company who today sent a txt saying the policy had been cancelled, as they hadn't received copies of the required documents. Immediate angry phone call from me, as I'm in receipt of an email confirming they do indeed have those documents on file. Incompetent doesn't begin to cover it.
