Really? Why?

Well Wifi typically has higher overhead than cabled and your difference between the cabled speed and wifi speed is pretty slim.

I'm getting <checks> 50M download and 20 up on wifi. Compared to 220M down and 20M up on a wired connection. You're banging up against the maximum real world speed of wifi (IMHO). Rockits might be able to give you some hints to squeeze out some more, but diminishing returns will apply.

Wireless will never be as good as wired period. If you are getting the figures you are getting that is really good. I wouldn't bother chasing an extra couple of Mbps. You won't notice it

The law of diminishing returns.

Also wireless is a living breathing constantly changing thin and not constant. Wired is pretty constant. So many variables on a typical wired/wireless home LAN with multiple users and devices.

You have a good set up there now. Believe me you don't want to start getting interested in this stuff! It will be your ruin

True that. I get 3.5Mbps over copper, and so am paying for 4G that sometimes gives me 4, sometimes 6 and occasionally 12. When it works at all.

Just reviving this interesting thread.

I'm just about to get a quote from my IT guy to run my 4G (in the roof) and copper (in the wall on the opposite side of the house) into a router that will multiplex them (a DrayTek 2860, apparently), and then put a couple of PoE Ubiquiti WiFi access points on the ceilings in the middle of the house, plus hard-wiring a tower PC, the TV and the femtocell. This is to replace the two separate routers (4G & Copper) and a mess of 2 TP-Link repeaters each. Maybe that will improve things.

Anything to watch out for?

I did consider satellite, or a line-of-site microwave to people across the valley who have 300MBps fibre (borstards!), but I think this will have to do until fibre reaches us.

Not sure about 'watch out for'

My Ubiquiti stuff has been rock solid, and that sounds like a sensible set up
