Mechanic broke a part in our car

My wife’s car a Y reg Ford Focus was in for repair. The throttle body is broken.

Whilst they were trying to get it out one of the bolts snapped as the car is obviously quite old.

And now it is stuck and they can’t get it out.

I guess it isn’t the garages fault. It is an old car so I can’t expect them to do much? It isn’t as though it is a new car and it is their issue.

Looks like we need a new car.

Anyone one got a good banger for sale? 4 door no smaller than a Ford Focus?

I've got a Volvo V40 1.6 Diesel 5 door that will be going soon. Zero car tax as under 100g CO2 and has averaged 48 odd mpg doing school runs & few other journeys. Cheap to run, safe and spec'd well enough with Sat Nav, Bluetooth, USB, music streaming. Perfect for using & abusing with wife/kids work

I bought it for trade money off my brother about a year ago but surplus to requirements now so should be cheap. I think it is 63 maybe 64 plate but will check.

Thanks.

However does 5 door mean it is an estate?

If so it would be too big for the wife! Got anything else surplus?

V40 is the estate, S40 the saloon. It's a smallish estate, and my wife drove a T4 for a couple of years as her daily.

Link to a PDF of my brothers original ad:

Sorry I got the price wrong! The Volvo XC90 V8 will be £5k. The Volvo V40 was £6500. I think it will sell for £6500 private now but happy for it to go to a forum member and thoroughly nice guy for £6k ;)

Just taxed it for 12 months last night funnily enough but it cost £0 so kind of irrelevant. MOT runs out end of Sept 2018 so will be getting that done anyway. Nothing wrong with it anyway so it will sail through. Had new Volvo battery at local Volvo main dealer recently as original was showing signs of getting low so best replace before it caused an issue.

Thanks!

Looks really nice and no doubt good value.

However when I said banger I really meant banger.

I don’t want to be spending more than £2k.

You haven’t seen the way my wife drives, parks and opens doors.

She has driven into the front of my house, reversed into my car and also opened her doors into the side of my car.

Tick all of those for Jeanette! I was in America when she hit the front bay, I came home for Christmas and only found it when I was taking the lights down and found the plaster attached to the wall paper and not a lot else across the whole bay!!! As there was ivy on the outside at the time she thought I wouldn’t notice!

Surely you can find someone that is capable of drilling out the broken bolt? It seems pretty bad having to write a car off for that.

Yeah. Going to see if it is possible. May have to drill out all 4 though.

Thing is it costs money and any penny spent means it costs more than the zero value of the car!!

But better the devil you know. Taken it to another guy who is much more hands on to see what is possible.

Hahaha....LOL I'll ask my brother if he has anything that fits the bill. Something Focus size? Any requirements or special requests?
