MCShift start procedure

Probably old news to some but I have discovered that the ignition on and three pedal pump is unnecessary for a smooth MCShift drive away when cold or general restarts. All I now do is leave the ignition on until most of the lights have gone out, then start the car and all is well.

I suspect that this time is for the clutch to carry out some calibration, and pumping the accelletor is a bit of a placebo that makes you wait long enough for the lights to go out, so has the same effect.

Hope this is helpful for some of you!

Yes I posted this a couple of months ago. It needs about 3-5 seconds for the clutch to adjust to its wear and recalibrate.

Just tried it. Excellent! Thank you both.

Didn't spot your post, but looks like at least Adam has benefitted from a reminder!

Not wanting to disagree, but the Maserati guru at Lancaster says that priming the throttle IS part of the routine which was put in place for engineers to be able to move cars around the factory without burning out clutches.

I know nothing either way, just repeating what I was told. I find the wait and the priming works pretty well but I've never tried missing the throttle prime out of the routine.

Interesting. All I can say is I used my car a lot this weekend (got lucky with unexpectedly wonderful weather on a trip to the seaside) and the car behaves exactly as it did without throttle pushes as it did with them, as long as ignition lights have gone out. Give it a try and let us know what you think.

I have been doing this since Shiftme recommended, and it makes a world of difference! Every now and then I forget, and seeing getting off my drive is a reverse up a slight hill and avoiding another car on one side and a bush on the other, it makes me a nervous wreck when I do!

I just get in .. put in the key first. Then by the time I have put my seatbelt on and got myself comfortable it is way past 3 seconds and all lights are out.

Never pumped the accelerator and find it perfect. Never had a problem. Give it a go!

hmmm now I have a worry as when I turn ignition on, all lights go out apart from battery, engine and oil light. When I start it, they go off.

Is that ok ?

Tried this method and yep no lumping on pull off

Sounds like what it should be. All the lights come on to show they are working, then after POST the natural state will be CEL, battery and low oil pressure, cos that's the status of the car :)
