As a Moderator, I like to remind people that this is the Maseratis - Spotted thread not the Wimpy - spotted thread. We do not condone thread drift here.

Anyone seen a Beejams?

One of my folk’s friends was the manager of Bejams on Harborne High St. It’s now an Iceland.

Reminds me of a joke...

A penguin drives into town on his way to Iceland for some fish, car starts playing up so he drops it off at the garage near town,

Penguin says 'I'm just off to Iceland for some fish, be back in a 30 mins'

Garageman says 'Right-o, should be sorted by then'

Penguin walks to Iceland and there's no fish left, so he thinks 'sod it' and buys 2 litres of ice-cream which he totally devours on his way back to the garage.

As soon as he gets there the garageman, head under bonnet says 'Looks like you blew a seal'....

Penguin gestures a circle around his mouth and exclaims 'No, it's ice-cream.....'

Boom-boom, I'll get me coat....

There's one in Farnborough.

This is true, and further research (i.e. Wikipedia) suggests that Wimpy's UK presence is now a husk of its former self... down from 500 iterations in the 70's to around 67 in last year.

On the subject of Farnborough specifically, beyond the airport adorned with Citations and Learjets, I always had it in my mind that Farnborough was an affluent town. A trip down the high street last year challenged that pre-conception... I do love the architecture featuring on the street-view snippet above.

I now stand in-line to be disciplined by @midlifecrisis for my Wimpy-centric transgression..

I was working there for IBM next to the airport and thought the same as you, it's a dump. I stayed in Aldershot, that's even worse, the Yates' Wine Lodge there has a genuinely sticky carpet, like walking on velcro....

I'm not sure there is such a thing as an affluent high street is there? Harrogate is in parts not a lot to write home about. Nor York from memory.

Marlow was OK, but really not a lot to buy

Bahnhofstrasse, Zurich. God, I felt like a Victorian urchin there....

Nah, ur right, to be honest High Street is dead anyway or will be in a few years....

Tend to agree. It's TQT(1) and nail bars now. With coffee and fast(2) food a close second.

C

  1. TQT: Top quality tat. Of course 'top' is ironic
  2. Fast meaning ****, clearly

Might I suggest a Maser meet at a Wimpy - always loved their burgers!

Not the one in Farnborough tho, although the Gurkha Palace does do excellent curries, all green, green chillies, green sauce, a wee bit too potent for me though, they were wicked!

Found a pic!

I'm in. Dorking Wimpy is more or less up the road from me... plus the ability to park out front, which you can't do in Farnborough.

BTW - are we all due to be perma-banned for an epic thread drift??
