Maserati Theft?

Hi folks, my neighbour recently had his RangeRover stolen from the street. I was just wondering if Members have thoughts on whether my 2011 QP 4.7S would attract thieves - wouldn't they want a newer one and/or a car like the RR where there are more models around? Would a serious car thief be interested even? Also anyone take special measures on top of the factory security? Just getting a bit worried...

I think the easy pickings now are newer cars with keyless entry and start. So the RR was probably easy prey, and certainly easier than breaking into your house to steal your car keys and then realise you're a psycho nutter barsteward who'll knock our would-be thief into next week. Even car thieves carry out basic risk assessments. I also would imagine that the market for a bent RR (or its constituent parts) would be much bigger than with a used QP.

Whilst I wouldn't imagine any of us is immune to theft, the guy with the AMG Merc, RS6, RR, etc etc is a far more likely victim.

Says here they won't nick it, just run a key down it....

Car envy
The ultra-flash Maserati was the car most likely to be vandalised according to Admiral’s data and other prestige makes like Porsche and Ferrari made the top five.
Managing director at Admiral, Sue Longthorn, thinks this particular act of crime is down to car envy.
"When specifically looking at the vandalism list, all the makes in the top five are expensive prestige vehicles, so the acts of vandalism could be down to envy against those cars and owners."
Acts of vandalism can include keying, wing mirrors being broken off, tyre slashing and jumping on the roof or bonnet of the vehicle.

Well mine got keyed twice.
But the otherwise adorable French do like their egalitarian values.
Never been keyed in the UK

That makes pretty depressing reading if you're a Bentley owner...

The Golf R is one of the most stolen cars because they want it as a getaway car , there have been a few Mustangs stolen using keyless boosters but as most of them are still on pirelli they can't have been used as getaway cars or they'd be in a shop window at the first junction.

From what I've seen most of the cars stolen have been easy targets , no disklok , nothing parked in front of them so they can just wave their aerials about and it starts.
I'm really surprised the insurance companies haven't pushed the manufacturers into sorting this our

Has anyone heard of (or have any experience of) the technology that forces you to type in a sequence of buttons on the steering wheel, to start the car? Obviously you need to turn the key too, but the engine won't start unless the sequence is right. I think that's how it works anyway.

......

Well that's the answer! I should put the P-Zeros back on my QPV and then nobody would dream of stealing it!

Mind you, it has had a panel creased and some very slight scratching while parked on the street - might have been vandalism, but I like to think just carelessness.

Pal of mine has a Golf R and there have been two attempted breakins to his house to get they keys. He is paranoid about it now and parks his partner's car in front of his every night and has had CCTV installed.

A pal of mine was interested in one of those limited edition Golf TCR. Apparently the salesman told him he would probably be followed home and have the keys nicked.

Up here in God's country it's RS Audis that you can't drive without being followed home. The S3 and RS3 in particular are the weapon of choice for Glasgow's underworld and I know 4 people that have their house broken into for them. One of them interrupted the thief and got himself thrown through a glass door for his troubles.

I genuinely won't buy a fast Audi.

I just renewed my insurance and was asked if my Ferrari had the new keyless system as it increases the insurance cost. Our BMW is nearly as much to insure which shows you that they are regularly subject to claims.

In Essex (where else) it's Focus RS's which tea leave target.

A mate who works for Ford and gets the latest hot hatch every time they come out (the get huge discounts), has had 6 RS's. 4 of the 6 were stolen. 3 from his driveway.

Yet he still buys them......
