Hi Bal, Novice question if I may?

Given the description and general state of the car first mentioned and now on ebay, what sort of cost would you put on the engine re-build?

Miles.

Hi Guys,

Sorry for the duplication. Miles, the ball park engine rebuild cost is gonna be at least 10K. This car has been standing in recent years, whilst it has been re-commissioned I wonder how well? You are wise to suggest that an engine rebuild may be needed, or at the very least head gaskets. At 12K plus the hidden costs it would be top whack for an Indywhich would have to be special. The only thing it has going for it are the miles if they can be backed up.

But the worry would be the rot as it's what lurks beneath as Frank has suggested. I think it's priced high, a better bet would be the car on the club site.

Though this one is an auto so not everyone's cup of tea.

Can't harm to view it though to get a better idea.

Lol, That's a good way to describe the colour.
Can't recall that being listed as an original shade, so obviously someone's idea of paradise......

Don't get me wrong there will come a time when you can't find decent project Indy's, but I think it's too much for an unknown quantity even though it's described as being on the road. Underated cars and they are full 4 seaters. Maybe an inspection would help, as if it's only the doors in poor shape then I'm sure Henshaws can provide skins. So long as the chassis is solid you can be onto a good bet.

I'm projecting my engine job is going to be close to 11K and that's without any machining on the crank or cams. Though theres several hundred punds of that which are related to the hydraulic components, So it comes back tot hat 10K ballpark figure I had in my mind that relates to the engine work.

Maybe you should have a peek Miles, if it's near enough.......

Thanks for the wisdom Bal. In my naivety I had thought maybe 6 - 8K?

Andy, I have (only generally) been pondering a Trident project whilst there are still some out there at reasonable prices. Unfortunately I'm woefully under-educated as far as restoration goes and am happy to spend as long as it takes to learn the ropes and find the right car.

Does seem like it would be fun, though Bal may well disagree :)

No Miles I wouldn't disagree.

When a little younger I used to do up cars with my cousin. We had at one stage 4-5 BMW coupes (those like the first CSL) one of which we finished one on a shoestring. Then the economy crashed and the classic car market was hit. We had to bale out and scrap the remaining projects (though I still have 2 brand new BMW supplied front wings in my shed). But it was a very enjoyable time and I learnt a lot. Nowadays my facilities are limited so to do the most routine thing takes forever which is frustrating.
My current project is being farmed out but I get my hands dirty when I can, but my days of laying down on cold floors are long gone due to a motor accident (hit whilst stationary) causing pain in the back when the cold weather hits.

I keep looking at Meraks and Indy's as they come up and wish I could get one home without the wife noticing. That way when things do pick up you've got a project put away for the rainy days. With production numbers being low and currently the fans out there wanting to pay bucks for Fezzas, the classic Maz is affordable. The spares scene in the US is great and you stand a good chance of keeping the cars on the road. But I suppose I shouldl finish the current one as they say.

They need saving because they will run out eventually if left to rust or get exported.

Surely sir, you give her too much credit..........

Mind you she was talking with my daugther's friends dad who related that his grandfather had a Khamsin in Rome that used to get stolen all the time. So she was able to remember the name of the car therefore she may have a bit more car knowledge than I thought. In a nutshell I'm bu??ered, all my own fault for being a petrolhead.
