They could repurpose the factory staff to manufacture wishbones during that week.
With their unit prices, they will make a killing :)

What I've just learned is that they did the same in September without us noticing, and plan to have an extended shutdown over Dec/Jan too.

It's just down to lack of sales for the Ghibli and QP.

Pointed this out at the start of the year...future is not bright on China. This bodes poorly for the silly 4x4 and sadly on all future plans.

Yes
I think Maserati have missed the boat re China, which is bad for the new QP.
I think there will be repercussions for the marque here. Maybe ditch the QP or the SUV or both?
But where will that leave them just a GT until the Alfieri comes along?
The captain of the ship does not appear to be connected in any way to the rudder

Please, not dropping the QP!
I think others will go before that.
For me the QP and GT are their best cars and probably the ones with higher margins for maserati

In our industry we buy a lot of stainless steel pipe and fittings, that is made in China.
The price has dropped dramatically recently because demand in China has slowed right down, and consequently they are selling cheaply out of China.
Speaking with a supplier only a few days ago I had to ask how they can be making money for the selling price was so low now.

Everything coming out of China is cheaper it seems, hence Redcar steelworks shutting, The chemicals industry is also starting to struggle, a lot. Wonder if it will still be cheap when we have shut all our manufacturing industries down and rely on China for everything. It's too hard to compete with unregulated competitors..they only blew a plant up a few weeks ago but it doesn't matter. It's cheap!!

That's the problem. Unfair competition and when our industry is dead they will have us by the balls and it won't be cheap anymore.

I think scrapping the Ghibli and the SUV is the way forward. Yet they have already invested so heavily in the projects, now it's a matter of life or limb.

Scrapping the SUV may save on further development costs but if its 'ready' and it is based on the Gibber platform there will be little savings to be made...and as these two share a common platform the two are likely to continue.

Most seem to view the current QP as being too large for Europe so IMO that is the one that is most at risk of any rationalisation.

The GT is just a cash cow now as it has paid off its development costs and orders are still healthy despite the age.

As the the Alferni...if they are short of cash I hope it is still developed properly not like the bi turbos in the 80s

Given how close the launch of the Levante is meant to be, there appears to be little interest yet. HR Owen told me that they have about 10-15 orders for Alfieris, but have only ever had 1 phone call about the Levante - and no order from it!

This all sounds worrying, what about the new GT which has gone very quiet too? Tough times ahead for sure

Most of these types of cars bought new are through companies but if businesses are closing the knock on effect makes people nervous so the first thing to go is an expensive new car

The problem with Maserati is all they make is expensive cars so nothing to fall back on when the market dries up
